View Full Version : Broken Lock Cylinder

The lock cylinder on my driverside door is broken. I was in a hurry to leave the car and I tried to lock it with the key (no keyless entry) but turned it to the unlock position. I then quickly turned it to the lock position and heard a pop. Didn't think anything of it because the doors locked. Then when I got back to the car to unlock it, I stuck the key in and turned the lock but nothing happened. The key just turned back and fourth without anything happening. Now I have to unlock the car from the trunk or the passenger side like a damn loser.

Does anyone no how to fix this problem or pop the door handle/lock cylinder out to look at it?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On the backside of the lock cylinder is a long shaft that comes out and goes into the latch assy to turn the mechanical lock. The rod breaks and you have to replace it, the bad part is you can't get them separate from the cylinder from MB. You could try and find a generic lock cylinder from a junk yard and replace just the rod, it removes with just a small roll pin. Pull out your lock cylinder to verify, just a 4mm allen-head bolt holding it on the backside, partially pull out your door seal and you'll see the 4mm bolt.

Yep, the rod broke. I posted this on mercedes shop as well so I was able to figure everything out last night. Just wish I would have known to pull the weather stripping out to expose the bolt. I ended up taking off the whole door panel instead! To say the least I felt pretty dumb. At least I know how to take one off for future repairs. That sucks though that you can't buy the rod seperate, I found 2 w124's at a local junk yard though. (hope they are still there, cause this was last summer) Do you know if they will work?
