I believe the fronts will rub with a high offset like that. I have ET38 with 18x8 and i can fit the tip of my index finger between the tire and the suspension nut.

Please correct me if I am wrong . Isnt it that the higher the offset the further it is from the brake caliper/suspension or is it the other way around?

I had carlsson 1/6 19x8,5 offset 40 before. It was not rubbing at all, when you buy a carlssson, they bring it the spacer as well (5mm).

A higher offet will bring the wheel closer into the car....an et40 18x8.5 should rub on the front, best to use a et35 with an 8.5!

i have had 19s and 18's with 40mm offset and neither rub. a 5mm spacer would be prime how ever.

suprised the 235/40 didnt rub!...must have been close man!...
225's on the 19 would have saved you though!...i run 235/35 et35 and theres 5mm between the top nut, guess it all depends on your brand of tire as well...

If you use the ET 35mm x 17x 8.5" you can run a 245/40/17 or other tires of the same width and height.

You need to roll the fenderlip on a non AMG car, although I seem to recall that in 1998 all the C Class came with the front fenders rolled up tight already.

You gotta remember, the lower the offset, the more the wheel sticks out. Higher the offset, it goes in.
