so basically here's the thing....I just got a stock black 2000 C280 and i wanna do some mods to make it look nicer and handle better. The first thoughts were suspension: H&R springs and Bilstein Shocks. My second thoughts were regarding rims and tires: any recommendations for someone who's on a $1k budget and needs both rims and tires?? I've looked at Brabus replicas but they seem to be a little over my budget, considering I also need to get tires. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :beard:

H&R springs and Bilstein GREAT CHOICE.
but wheels and tires for a grand is going to be hard to pull off.
tires alone can be 700-1000 installed

Try velocity motoring for brabus replicas. I forgot how much my 18s with tires were, around 1150 shipped i think. Here's the link:

Go ahead and try them, email them for prices. Only bad thing is you can get an off set, and the tires are some side brand of Falken, but handle pretty well for the price.

u might want to check ur local craigslist to see if they got anytyhing u want. usually when people are trying to get rid of rims fast, they sell it really cheap on it.
for bay area: http://www.craigslist.org/cgi-bin/search?areaID=1&subAreaID=0&query=mercedes&catAbbreviation=pts&minAsk=min&maxAsk=max

the $1k budget is expendable. If need be, I'll push the limits up a little bit.
What do you guys think about tirerack.com? worth a try? rip off? what'r some good looking rims that aren't too expensive? Not necessarily AMG or Brabus replicas.

Got my rims of ebay for $850 shipped with brand new tires. Suspension should only be like $600 if you install it yourself or a friend does it for you. I'd probably go with the rims first because then you will most likely have to adjust your springs if it will be too low...etc. Just a big PITA to take it apart again and put in pads or remove them.

I just saw some nice wheels listed on eBay that might be worth looking at - it's not may listing and I don't know the seller. I just saw the wheels. AMG 17" Chrome (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8049380626&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT) and some

I, too, will recommend looking at eBay. I picked up a set of Authentic Brabus V 18's with Michelin PS/2's for $1200 last year around this time. They were in great shape and plenty of tread. Brand new they would have run close to $3K. Be careful, though, a lot of imititations and rip off artists show up on eBay, especially, it seems, for wheels.

Don't waste your time with e-bay IMHO. It's to much of a crap shoot on something you're going to be spending a grand or more so contact tire rack and they'll set you up with what you need. I used them for my E28 5 series. The wheels/tires came mounted and balanced. All i had to do was remove the snows and mount to the new.
