98 C230 foglight replacements

I have a 98 C230. I would like to replace the foglight bulbs with some Hella or PIAA bulbs. I went to Summit Racing ( I live 40 minutes away) and bought Hella H1 yellows. According to everything i see, my owners manual, the Hella listing, everything..Lists the fog light bulb as an H1. By why in the bloody hell will the H1 bulb just fall into the hole? The hole is much bigger than the bulb. I looked at the bulb I pulled out and the base is bigger and it has 2 terminals instead of a single.
Any clues.
PS Hella yellow high beams... See what your missing with your ultra blues.

H1 seperate fog lights in bumper are H1 and the ones that are incorporated in the headlight housing are h3?

facelifted W202 (your '98 car) should have H1 fog light (H1 high beam and H7 low beam), if I well remember.

As fog light I'll look for a yellowish bulb light!

yep the foglight is H1. and i bet you pulled out the low beam. look a lil further down, u'll see the fog light bulb.

Yeah.. I was looking at the wrong bulb. It was an optical illusion during the day time. So, I waited until last night in the dark. Sho' 'nuff it was the bottom bulb... an H1. thanks for everyones posts. I was just in a hurry.
Now I have to get another pair of bulbs for the fogs. My wife admitted to liking the H1 yellows for high beams. Her quote? "You can still see the signs a half mile down the road, but they aren't all washed out as you get closer."

Ok, so the foglights inside the headlights are H1's ? I fit H3's in there (well made them fit) they turn on and work, but what will happen ?

off topic, but does anyone know what type of bulbs go into the bumper foglights on the 2006' W203 ? I pulled em out but cant figure out what type they are, they are partially plastic and screw in.
