well benz uses the 38 pin connector under your hood to diag problems with your car. it's what they hook their computers up to to read out data and trouble codes of your entire car. but the obd connector they are talkin about is a generic one so other shops (indy shops) can figure out problems. it is located under the drivers side knee panel (lower dash). it is a 16 pin rectangular connector that has a flap that covers the connector.

are your sure that the bulb is good. don't wanna seem like an A** but always gotta start with the easy ones, right?

Whenever I have had my emissions checked, they used the under the dash connector.

The one in the engine bay can only be read by Star Diagnosis computer, which is big $$ most indy's will not have one.

Dont understand why they think it's missing? Are you sure that's exactly what they said?

well if u remove the lower dash there is that quick release clip that holds the connector to the dash. the only reason i can think of is that the clip came undone and the connector popped out, so it appears that its missing but it's really just loose behind the dash panel. check it out and let us know!

Remember, those lights that come on after you close your door are the foglamps, not headlights.

What's the deal on that? On my car it is the headlamps. Does this change from year to year?

i think in our cars, the fog lamps are part of headlamps. what stox mean is that the light that comes on is the fog lamp bulb instead of the headlamp bulb.

Not on mine its the low beam. I know this because its the HID that come on and they are only on low beam. But maybe my car is not the same as non AMG's. I have seen some very stupid smog places and it is possible that they just didnt know where to look!

Check the bulb, if its good it might be in the controller.

Nope, my low beams come on, neither of my fogs do.

Hey all, i found that clip under my steering wheel near my right knee, there is a clip but nothin in it. I popped the clip out but its an empty space, no connector, any ideas? could it just be loose and hanging back there, all i need to do is remove the panel and locate it....?

As for my light situation, bulb is ok because i think its my low beam that should come on when i turn off the car, but it just doesnt

any help on these topics greatly appreciated.....

yeah it fell behind just remove the lower dash. it something like 4 or 5 screws and a push clip by the brake pedal. then reinstall the obd connector in the slot. it'ss be back there.

Yep, found the connector and reinstalled it to the clip and passed inspection. Also it is my fog light that is not lighting upon exit, i replaced the bulb and fixed that too, thanks guys....

well good to hear that. fortunately you had easy fixes/solutions with your car. not sure if your aware but these cars have a bulb malfunction light on the clusters. if you activate a light and the bulb is blown, a warning light will come on your cluster indicating that there is a bulb/light out when the bulb is activated. this applies for all exterior lights.
