I don't know the background of your case. If you bought this car recently I would try to find some records on what has been used in the car in the past and continue to use that or a High Mileage version of it. I don't think I would switch to synthetic if it hasn't been running on it for a long time because at that high of mileage synthetic tends to find leaks and exploit them. I would use a High Mileage synblend type of oil from Castrol or equivalent.

well we use "Mobil 1 Delvac 1300 Super Motor Oil 15W-40 Diesel" oil in all of our cars prior to 98+ which is when synthetic came out for benz's. this oil is the same stuff for diesel and gas even though it says diesel on it.

i use mobile 1 clean 5000 10W-40 in my car all year round. i changed it every 3000 miles and it pours out "clean as can be". it could definately go well over 5000 miles if u use OEM filters which are the best.

with such high mileage, I defiinitely woudnt go under 40weigh, so 10w-40 or 15w-40 would be good, you can also go 50weight, but you might sacrifice some gas mileage.

If the car has not been on a diet of synthetic oil, then most would say you can't go that route now. However, if you aren't burning much oil (say less than .5 qt every 3-4K mi.) then I'd stick with 10w-40 dino oil. (Castrol is my personal favorite in dino oil)

I also have a 97 C230 with 168k miles. It has developed a small oil leak. Not sure that it was the MOBIL 1. It has had Castrol and Valvoline products in the past.

i was using 15-50w Mobil 1 (red cap) in the summer and depending how much oil u r burning.....you CAN use 0-40w Mobil 1 in the winter (esp if you live in a 'cooler' place)

and i had 203k miles (by the time i sold it)

my question is..is there a recomended oil for warm/HOT climates...? usually thicker weight is recommended for warmer climates. however, you can use anything from 30 to 50 weight in your car, wont make much difference, except slight diff in gas mileage.

If they know what they are doing and the price is right, why not. is the fluid original?
