Got the word from my friendly mechanic (MB mechanic working on my car off hours) that I need a new MAS for my 1998 C43
:-(
He said $600 from MB for the part...
What's the net wisdom on that? How much for installation? Is it a DIY job?
Thanks.

Hey man , I have a 1998 C43 and I got a new MAS and it made the car SOOO much more powerful... Before i got it when it kicked down a gear it would have major lag... I think I paid about $400 total with labor... I would definetely do it though!

a few sprays of this should do the trick if the MAS' hot film is dirty:

I have a C230 so i dont think the MAF is the same but ... Ive heard rumors ... that the C230 MAF is also used on Other cars ... and works exactly the same, the differance is that u use the senser part - not the tube ... just costs under $100 NEW!!!
I will let you guys know FOR SURE this week, I know a place that has a car that should have the MAF on it - ill pull it and see if the rumor is true.

I've also heard this as well. My mechanic said that there is a VW part that's exactly the same as the sensor on the V6 that costs $75. I would be in heaven if this is actually true. I have a couple of MAF layin around with dead sensors.

yea the sensors may be same but not the tube - you can screw the tube and just replace the sensor.
