Has anyone actually changed out their engine for a bigger one? I.e. upgraded from a 4 cylinder to a V8.

To my knowledge, no. Going from 4 to 8 requires too much work. Better off just buying a car with the 8. 4.3L to 5.5L is easy as the engine and tranny and electronics are basically the same. Direct swap too.

i've got a v6 now. but if someday i can fork out the money for a conversion, i want a v8. so how much would it potentially be?

Probably more $ than finding a used C43 with the V8 already in it. Personally, I would find a high milage C43 for cheap and then find a 5.5 and let er rip.

I have no idea.

You'll need: engine, tranny, ECU and associated electronics, rear diff, brakes, possibly a torque converter. Those are the mian items off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more.

I think the C280 to 3.6L AMG would be difficult as well.

yea you can find C43 cheaper if it has a blown engine, then find a totalled E55 w/ good engine and buy the whole car - you can resell the parts and it should be enough to pay back at least for the engine!

for those of u new members here actually thinking about attempting this, whatever rollin just said made sense but do not by any means should u think a scenario such as this would happen often.

why not. there are many auto auctions in every major city, many open to the public. there are many totalled and salvagable cars there it would make your head spin. I have a E320, and Im thinking of swapping out the body kit and front/rear suspensions/brakes and maybe the diff with my burned E55's ones.
