Anyone ever had an experience doing this?

they weren't chrome before they were chromed ;)
but isn't reversing the process too much work?

no experience, but yes, you can. Sanding/scuffing them down is one way, but that's ghetto and won't last.

You'll want to bring it to a chrome shop and have them acid dipped or whatever it is that they do. MIght be cheapr to sell the chrome ones, pick up some used non-chrome, and have them painted/powdercoated

It's possible. Best way is to acid dip it (reverse electroplating). Sand/media blasting is possible, but the soft aluminum will likely be rough afterwards.

Best bet is to ask a shop that does this kind of stuff.

yes i had my monos dechromed before the were sprayed black.. however the wheels were in such poor shape to begin with when the painter was trying to powder coat them black the powder would not stick and they had to be wet painted and that started to crack/peel, i suggest if you dechrome dont get a colored finish, just get a polished finish...
