View Full Version : PSE pump lazy?

Recently I opened my car to get something and fiddled with the interior lights. Upon locking they stayed on so I kept locking and unlocking the car to get them programmed right again. Locked and unlocked about 6 times.

The locking PSE pump in the back then all of a sudden started to work really slowly and the locks all went down slowly, one at a time. I left it for about 5 mins and it worked normally again until another 4 times locking/unlocking of the button and it slowed again.

Is this normal if you keep locking and unlocking the car several times? (Not that I do). Vacumn pressure runs out?

Just wondering...

My w201 has a vaccuum tank reservior for the locks. It does the same thing.

Honestly I haven't tried it in the w202, but I wouldn't worry about it. I think that this would be a normal condition with the engine turned off.

Ya does it collect vacumn from the engine?

The engine and pse vaccuum systems are connected. You can test that by running the supply down so the locks slowly operate. Then start the car, they'll quickly replenish.

But you'd want to still be able to lock the car once the original vaccum supply runs out, so the pump is electric I'm sure.

It looks like the original design didn't include a reservior.
If the pump were to be replaced, the new one requires the addition of an expansion reservoir (129 805 00 19).
So if you've got one, it'll be under the trunk lid hinge on the right side.

It doesn't look like there'd be anyhing that stops you from adding one now. But it'd only extend the number of times you could play with your locks. And could you imagine includung that one in your list of mods?!?

Locks are working good. An oil change and fuel filter are being done today.

Off topic...what can I expect with a new fuel filter in the cars operation?
