Hey all!

Just got my 96 C280 yesterday and I'm all excited to get started fixing it and never, ever stop fixing it as long as I own the car.

I'm planning to check the dual valve this weekend because the side air vents blow hot air when the A/C is on. CD Changer is not working and if I have to replace that, might as well get rid of the head unit and replace all speakers.

The problem I have yet to diagnose is the buzz coming from the general vicinity of the sunroof switch. It's constantly on when the car is on and dies slowly when the car is turned off. I had the thought that something may have come ungrounded. Any ideas?

thats the ac sampler fan. it should be silent, but if its noisy, Im guessing its worn out or dirty.
this is the actual part behind the dome light cover:

I looked at it briefly yesterday and I'm having trouble figuring out how to actually get to the part.

Can you give me some idea of what I need to take apart how in order to get the piece out and look at it?

Just use your hands...A kind Mr. NL demonstrated for me...and while it's not recommended, you can pretty much get to it one handed while driving.

Gently pop out the right light lense (and maybe the left one too). then you should be able to grip the whole plastic lighting and switch base to pop it out from the rear facing side.

Clockwise? CounterCW? I tried but was scared of breaking whatever holds it.

Try CCW first...should come right out. And you've already broken your old module...the base should be stronger. Trying to push in the tabs is kind of a bia bia.

its the ac sampler. its a little fan/sensor that measures the interior temp and adjusts ac output accordingly.

Like nenad said, the a/c sampler sensor has worn out.
If you break it, your climate control probably may not correctly. When you set your temperature on your climate control unit, that sensor is what the system uses to meet that temperature.

Measures the temperature inside the cabin and tells the AC if it needs to blow more cold air or not. Since you have no AC, then its meaningless if you have it on or off. The only difference I think it will make is that when you push the "AUTO" button, it will start blowing air at medium speed instead of max. Oh, and you'll have to manually adjust the heater.
