I have a 99 C280 V6, 96K miles. Runs very well. No problems yet. I'm just paranoid about my Temp at 95. I'm in Orange County (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA). I'm looking for a reputable shop who can custom rebuild my engine to my specification (increase horsepower & torque).

Anybody know where I can go?

Sorry guys! I meant "Custom Engine Rebuild" not customer.

I dont see why your engine would need a rebuild @ 95k miles..

also horse power is expensive for N\A cars.. your best bet if you want power is to add a low boost turbo or supercharger.. or just the simple intake & exhaust.

if you have a v6, it would be cheaper to add a supercharger, such as kleeman or HPS, they are direct replacement for your intake manifold and add about 100-150HP for under 10K installed.

I will definitely look in to this.

The reason for the engine rebuild was...since my car is approaching 100K miles, I want to make sure I have a fresh engine to start with and It will last me another 100K or so.

if taken care of, your engine will last another 100K without any major problems. if compression is what concerns you, Id suggest you look into www.xadoshop.com I have also put their products to the test:

engine rebuild would be cheaper than 10k I believe, I have seen a few posts here that said ti would be around 5k... and I have a feeling you could get more than a 100hp with the same money you would spend on a low boost turbo, which is what the mol would get you, and it wasn't even100 hp it took the c280 to 285 I believe, not sure about sced though...

These engines are strong. Unless you're looking to do a hi-pref NA build ... @ 100K, maybe just look @ having you heads done; good 3 angle valve job, guides maybe if you see a little blue smoke on startup; dunno if a port or polish would help your engine (jnenad16 would I imagine).

If you do want 'more' (i.e. hi-pref NA build on an I6)....

- Spark up a conversation with 23K. See this thread:
http://www.club202.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10164

- Read Speedybenz's thoughts on building a C36 engine, which relates to yours; you would just need to replace some more things in your engine).

Were you able to find a shop in the OC area that does engine rebuilds or in my case "upgrades"?

optimize your engine first. The AMS crank pulley for your car is already done and the AMS V6 headers should be coming out soon, if you are patient enough you can wait for those together and that will help out a ton. Theres no reason you can't get close to the 100HP/L mark (putting you right around C36 numbers). It will require a bit of NA tuning but its not in the realm of impossible at all.

I didn't believe there was much available for a California C220 without damaging the ability pass smog. What gains could I expect with headers & a I4 pulley? Chip tuning is only good for around 10+HP.

It's my understanding that replacing the engine with a newer, stronger MB version could still be smog legal.

intake and exhaust, a pulley as mentioned,
and maby even a piggyback ecu on a dyno to get the fueling more optomised for hp instead of emmisions and thatl prolly ad 50 odd hp

I posted in this thead a long time ago...will just add, get that little 4 banger to redline with authority @ 8K (i.e. breath really well with a really well built valve train) and it'll be pretty fun. I believe that was the W201 EVO's strategy...

If you're gonna open up your motor for work, do it all at once. I say build it! Throw some high compression pistons, thicker rods, bore the cylinders out and get your crank blueprinted. You should be good to go with GREAT numbers. You can clean up the head and do mild valve job and/or porting and you'll be fine.

For great engine building to go RS MACHINES in Carson, CA.
They can build just about any motor, top to bottom customized to your specs.
Talk to EDDIE, great guy, great service and HONEST!
