View Full Version : finally lowered my car
ok, so i got my koni sports on wednesday...
yesterday i attempted to install them by removing the shock, and pulling the LCA down, then unbolting the sway bar, still could not get enough extension. By then the INSANE S.D. heat was melting my brain away and I decided to quit.
today a buddy came by, we did it like I normally do spring/shock vehicles. unbolt and drop the LCA.
took us about 3-4 hours, it was super easy, but lining up the LCAs and reinstalling hte bolts was like...30 min each bolt. Those fuckers SUCK BALLS and did not want to line up for shit.
Went from stock all around, #4 front and #1 back, to koni sports (35mm) all around and #1 pads all around.
Got about 1.5-1.75 (a tad more than 35mm) all around. The rear has NO GAP, the front has about 1/2-3/4 inch gap.
Ride is great, I can barely tel it was lowered. I didn't touch the bumpstops. I will lower the front a little more (if it doesn't settle in the next few weeks) at a later date, when I get shocks, or rims, or both.
I washed and waxed yesterday, and it POURED at like 5am this morning. So I will not be posting pics for a little while....look for me creating a gallery sometime this week.
no rubbing, and not harsh. Only on big dips is when you can feel the susp. being tight. It handles much better, but only as good as it can be considering my sport package shocks carry about 94k

So you have #1 pads all around... How do you intend to lower the front further?

man, lining up the LCA's are easy as pie, I always do the suspension by myself too, not that i really choose to, just no one really around when i do it, anyways, its not that hard, sissy :P

i wonder if you would call me or my buddy sissies to our face. I doubt it.
Seriously, why be such a dick?
There were 2 of us having a hard time. Both of us know our ways around a wrench. In fact, we have both been employed as auto technicians at one time or another. I've lowered tons of cars, and a few half-ton trucks.
It seemed no matter where we jacked it up from, it was always off by an inch laterally. A 4 lb ball peen couldn't line the control arms up.
okay, so i measured it all out, and this is what i got....
measurements from top of fender to center of hub
Stock
Front: 15.25"
Rear: 14.75"
Now
Front: 13.5"
Rear: 12.25
Total: 1.75" all around (compared to 35mm, or 1.37").
Here's where it gets weird....
The passenger side is .25" lower than what I have listed (that's common with lowering/lifting any vehicle)
The front is actually .25 higher than the back (ground to bottom of side skirt). This is taking into consideration that I went from a #4 pad to a #1 in the front. If i didn't change pads, and just new springs, I'd be much taller in the front and it would be super obvious!!!
Anyone ever hear of this/experience this? I hope it settles in the next few weeks so it's at least level, i'd like the front to sit a bit lower than the back though.
The only thing I can think of is my subs, although the box, even when loaded, is not very heavy.....

if it was a joke, then i appologize.
i just don't know "lewda" and therefore take "sissy" as derrogatory.
so....does anyone think my front end will settle in more? all the weight is hanging up there...i hope it does

your whole suspension will settle, meaning it will drop a little more over time from what it appears when you first drop it off the jack, but its not going to be a real major noticable difference, if you want it to be lower, then reduce the size of your spring pad if you havent already

yeah, i figured that much, i've got #1's all around. I am hoping the front will settle more than the rear.
I did some searching, and there were a few threads on koni/vogtland springs settling in the front to give it a rake. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope mine does the same...i do about 60 miles daily so hopefully it won't take too long

now, are you upset b.c the front is low enough? you want a much lower stance in the front? or your not happy with how it looks uneven, if you unhappy with how it looks uneven, get some bigger spring pads for the rear, but i think you just want a lower look, if you really want it lower, just cut like half a coil off.

I just installed my koni sport springs 2 weeks ago. I was impressed on how it rides, its alot better/stiffer but not bouncy or to stiff at all and no rubs.

post pics!! and i gotta see your stance cuz i got the cali/santee/baja/prerunner thing going on right now. i'm waiting for the weight of the engine to settle my front springs down a little more.
i dont think my subs are weighing the rear too much....the loaded enclosure is about...60lbs?
how much did yours settle in the 2 weeks?
and i agree, i'm super impressed with the ride. it's barely any stiffer, my girlfriend didn't even notice the ride, but she hated the ride in my truck that was dumped on progressively valved shocks.
Ok so now that it's been 2 weeks (2 weeks tomorrow), i took some measurements, here's what I got....
rear is now 12.25"
same as before, but level from left-right
front is 13" on passenger side, and 13.5" on drivers side. WTF?!?!
The front drivers side has not settled AT ALL, and it pisses me off.
Anyone have a similar experience or have any suggestions?
