my 94 cant just screw off though, you need a new shaft adaptor for a new knob. but i guess they could still be interchangeable with the adapter

I just had mine off. In the 94 c220 there's a nut that's tightened down to prevent it from unscrewing by hand. I can't see why yours would be different.
