advice on new wheels, help too.

So now that I know that 9.5 in the rear will fit, I wanted some feedback in tires.

I'm going to spend quite an amount of money this time on the wheels and tires, that is why I really dont' want to screw anything up.

I'm basically looking for this sort of set up.

    1. a 18", and a 8.5 up front and 9.5 in the back. (I want the deep dish in the rear, with not so much in the front..)

    2. i want to poke, and stretch the tires. Will 225 and 245 be an ideal tires size?

    3. I was browsing through many people's setup in the gallery. Some of them really confused me, since many of those slammed setups has a size of 35 in the rear and 40 up front. (i understand this different tire set up will look awkward on a non-lowered car.)

*For Reference, I wanted the similar
look with user name "ryhi" car.

please guide me through this, i really want a perfect look.
heres a pic of my stance at the moment.

it's a disaster, it's running on 17" 7.5 all aorund. tires sizes are 215 and 225 in the back with the same thickness.

as you can see in the last pic, i wanted a look like that. it's a front wheel with close to "streched" tires. I wanted that look, aligning with the fender.

    Thanks,

Running 18x8.5 front with et37 offset and 18x9.5 rear with et35 offset with no problems or spacers needed. Like c280nz mentioned, offset is a critical factor.

Also, 225 and 255 and ideal tire sizes.

    hi here,
yes i seemed to figure out the different combination of the members here make.

    i'm also wondering,
for example on a 9.5, does higher offset mean thicker lip? or lower offset means less lip?

You have two different series of tires to accomodate the tires width.

225/40/18 means that the series (thickness) is 40% of the width.

255/35/18 means that the series is 35% of the width.

    So..... 225 x.40 = 90

    and 255 x .35 = 89.25

What this data means is that the thickness of the wheel is almost identical, and would be very close to if you were using 225/40/18 all around. With a difference .75 mm.

Now if you used 255/40/18, then you would have 102mm thickness and that is more than 10mm thicker on the top and bottom of the wheel/tire combination. Think of the thickness when looking at the wheel face with a tire mounted. If you used 255/40/18, then the rear wheels would be 20mm thicker thant the fronts.

thanks a lot for the explanation Denlasoul.

i don't have that much experience here, please bare with my knowledge here.

I wanted a exact look like this car

Taken from VIP_BNZ in this forum. (Sorry for using your pic)

As I have searched from him, he seems to be using 18 x 8.5 and 9.5
which is exactly what i want.

what i want to know is, what tire size is he running?

he says that the front are 235 and the rear is 265.

will it be okay, if i ran 225 and 255? with the width of 40 up front and 35 in the back?
    so basically

225/40/18 up front and 255/35/18 in the back.

will it still be the look of his car?

Well....technically the tires (225 and 255) would be 10mm thinner thatn the 235 and 265.

255mm = 25.5cm = 10.03 inches, so on a 9.5 wide wheel you should be ok. 255 looks perfect on a 9 inch wheel. Will the hlaf inch make a difference? Possibly. Though I doubt anyone would notice.

I would check to see if anyone was running 255 on a 9.5 wheel to get a better idea of how the tire will look.

id say its gona require a bit more guard work to get the set up rhyi is running, that looks to me quite custom to get that to work (i could be wrong)
are you gona be buying new or second hand,
because they normally make wheels to fit a merc with the correct offset that you want, so go find what style wheel u want, and then see what offset combos you can get it in and them post them up here for advice

    i'm getting them brand new.

i have a few in mind.

Brabus reps, as shown in VIP_BNZ's pic.
HRE reps, those usual style wheels.

I already have the size, offset in mind. So it should be okay.

18", 8.5 and 9.5 off off set of 35 front and rear.

    225/40/18 and 245/35/18.

    thanks anyway.

    Hey guys,

Will 18 x 9.5, ET40 work in the rear of a 1998 C230? I found a number of people have ET35's, but the Et40 will be pulled in another 5mm, and I wasn't sure if a spacer would be required. Any info would be appreciated.

I'm trying to find out if these wheels from a SL600/R230 will fit... looks like the fronts are OK, but not sure about the rears. Any recommendation on tire size, or fender rolling, would be appreciated... thanks!
