AC Seats

Ok follow me on this one and tell me if this would work.

Y out one of the air ducts to the rear and feed it to the inside of the front seats using rubber tubes with holes in them to let the air escape.

This will then go through the little preforation in the leather resulting in air comming out the seats for a cooling/heating effect depending on what your hvac temp is. End the days of sweaty backs while youre ac blows cold!

You could add a on/off valve to control how much air you wanted pump'd in the seats. Off course there is an issue with pressure. But on the outside how does this sound in getting a/c seats? Or am I just going insane now.

my good buddy, its all relative. I have never lived outside the bay area so it is hot for me

but besides that. you think this would work?

as for air pressure I guess you could make it more by making sure the id of the tube you will use is so small that it will force the air to move quickly.

Have you seen the sponge underneath the seat? It is kind of thick. How do you plan in sticking in the tube with holes insinde the sponge?
And probably, the seat won't be as strong (means a fat guy sit on it, it might breaks the tube)

maybe an aftermarket company can make those.

If not, doig it yourself would need a compressor because it won't "push" teh air enough. Just as when you close one vent in the front it send more air to the other vents.

I'm in quebec qhere it's damn cold in the winter and hot in the summer and I'd love to have this type of seats. But with a remote start you can have your a/c drop the inside temp before you get in your car and reduce a lot the sweaty back factor.

You could always route a channel for the tubes. But yeah the pressure is the part that might not work out.

hmmm back to the drawing board with this....

you know i would have done this and total cost would have been like 10 dollars

Why don't you just buy some seats from the new S-Class!!! They have AC seats in those OR you could just steal some......

If your seats have foam padding underneath the cover- - should be OK

If your seats have the horsehair padding....the old horsehair may may reak smelly over time

hahaha yeah that wouldnt be good... think of all those drilled in pharts

But I too think it can be done. It would be more on the luxo side of the scale since its airconditioned seats.

I'll experiment.

actually if you have the horsehair pads....they may come back to life and need a hair cut with all that luxo a/c treatment!

...this sounds like something I have planned a while ago...except:

What you are planning Joey will never work...simply because the horse hair padding (it is not actual horse hair) is too thick and not suiteable for any kind of air going through...in between your leather seatskin and horsehair padding is a thick fluffy like layer - again NOT suiteable for air going through (don't get distracted by the holes in teh leather you see).

Now what I planned was simply using the ventilated seatstuff as it was offered in the W210 and due to the fact that I couldn't find a simple ventilated bottompart of the seat, I just went the easy way and bought an almost complete W210 interior (except for 1 door panel and incl. 2 damaged doorpanels) with heated, ventilated front seats...and enthusiastic as I was I took one of those seats apart that same week I bought them...

Now...behold and beware...the ventilated 210 seats are put together completely different making the ventilated seat quest one of those that I might skip eventually (if I only had time).

The horse hair padding comes with a couple of holes in which the fans are mounted...3 in the backrest - 2 in top and 1 rather large one in the bottom of the backrest - positioned in a way to leave the possibility to have ortopedic seats as well and the bottom of the seat has 6!!! fans...

On the topside of the horsehair padding (and here diffculty 1 rises) there is somekind of hard plastic grating making it possible for the air to flow...so - these horsehair cushions are thinner and come with a plastic airduct topping...

The leather covers are completely perforated...all the way to the front (instead of what our seat have only 2/3 part of the seat)...and the heated elements inside the seat are perforated as well (otherwise air can't go through)...diffculty # 2...

So in order to make these 210 ventikated seats work in a W202 (the W210 seats are wider then the 202 seats otherwise it would have been an easy swap) I will have to make my 202 horsehair padding thinner and try to reglue that plasti airduct grating and I will have to get the 210 heated elements sewn into my 202 leather...maybe even get the rest of the leather perforated as well...

Sounds like quiet a lot of work to me...

The backpanel of these seats have a ventilation opening as well...to let air escape...

By now I have 1 set of used ventilated 210 seats (black leather), 1 set of new ventilated 210 seats (ortopedic adjusteable...hearse material I would say ) and 1 separate cushion to play around with...

the easiest way would maybe be to cut and redure the width of the W210 seats so they fit?

would mean having teh leather modified also.. $$$ but loads less time than changing everything..

I only have 4 black leather vetilated 210 seats where as my 202 has an ash leather interior...

I wouldn't say that there's news...but that it seems to be more work than Steve's been willing to put into it at the moment.

If, on the other hand, you do think the effort's worth it, you could follow Steve's example and:

1. Obtain w210 (or similar) ventilation parts

2. Significantly modify w202 seats to accomodate the ventilation

3. post up on here and brag about how you were able to suceed where others failed
