No CD Changer Error Message

Recently, I've been getting a "NO CD CHANGER" message even when my CD changer is there loaded with CDs in them. I've tried taking out all the CDs and letting the changer cycle through, it worked for a bit but then soon after the CD I was playing went out after making a loud static noise mid song. I cannot seem to figure out why this has happened, is my changer bad now or is it a fiber optic cable. Has this happened to anyone?

maybe the cable... i often receive a no magazine error message but surely there is one...
