    nd4spd13,
Yep, upto 06/00 CLK55 is EGS51/ME2.0, it also says it on the TCU and EPC part numbers for TCU confirm this.

The wiring diagrams for the tip TCU(EGS51 or 52) show the anolog inputs from a gate shifter as writen "not used".

The tiptronic C43 uses EGS 51, I have all the wiring diagrams and part numbers for all, I printed out all diagrams for EGS51 CLK55,00 C43 and 99 C43 to make sure everything was going to work, also wiring diagrams show all ME2.8/EGS52 updates with after 06/00-->

There are other parts you need with multifunction, like 5 wire steering angle sensor and assosiated 5 pin wiring from clk55 plus indicator arm which is same but holds the 5 wire plug inside. also your horn no longer goes striaght to EIS, it goes via the multifunction cluster so EIS needs a single brown wire to EIS pin 8 from cluster ,also stoplamp switch updates for 00 C43/00 CLK55 onwards to work with touchshift harness, you need to also change plugs on this to suit your chassis harness. another update is the airbag wiring, you will want to use the CLK's one and run it directly to your airbag module, you could use the original green/purple cable but you would need to cut and solder.

If your interested in the swap a whole CLK55 is the ONLY way to go, you will use many many 202/208 parts from it.. make sure you get a good one

    hey pagzie
how long did this full swap take you?
2 months of total build time or longer?

did you compare your speedo scale readings with a gps?
your vehicle speed is it accurate with the new speedo fitted?

show us more shots of the final result, both interior and exteriör pictures, close ups are preffered

I probably wont bother with the senders for a while, ill track down and gather the parts though.

Next stop i reckon might be poly bushings in the front, im getting some clunks over low speed bumps. Does anyone do a poly bushing kit for the C43?
I have Solid polys on my C43. IMO Theyre better than OEM but I like the stiffer more responsive ride. It did however increase the amount of road noise transfer to the cabin.

    Hello Dennis,

It is hard to say how long this this swap took, maybe 2 months in ideal situations!. I invested a lot of time.. I don't feel I could do such a project again for a while

I have not compared the new speedo, but I should do thanks for reminding!.

More photo's to come, I have been waiting for interior parts to come MB made many mistakes trying to supply the shifter surround but I finally got it 3 months later..and now I find I need more parts!.

For anyone undertaking a touch shifter change here is some extra info:

Outer shifter trim from 98/99 W202 fits the W208's inner touchshift gate wood finish..but it does NOT fit the updated W202 inner touchshift gate black plastic finish as it is a few mm wider(don't understand why MB did this).

I also ordered the glove compartment that replaces the ash tray, but unfortunately ordered the right carpet but wrong glove compartment, I may re-order the right one. I didn't understand why the carpet had to be cut to fit^^, so would have to buy a new carpet too haha.

If you do not want to replace the ash try with shallow glove compartment you still need to purchase the shallow spectical holder.

Well i was looking last couple nights at suitable 55 cars to swap engines into my C43, seems the best low miles cars were CL55, but i noticed the engine cover is different so i wonder what else could be...

Im thinking of just buying a 2006 C55 and leaving my C43 as it is... Im not going to sell it, cause its awesome, but i think i need that extra power...

Pagz you're so taking me for a ride in that thing lol. By chance, do you still have that steering rack, engine mounts and shocks you had for sale?

    Hello's

Excuse the late reply life got busy.

KC, You can swap pretty much any of the 5.4's in you just need various parts from the C/CLK like the oil pan, maybe oil pump etc but always the coolant plug on right side. The air intake/filter from the C43 will also drop onto any of the 5.4's.

Funboy, sure np though the stars will need to align with a time when it isn't broken^^. I still have the c43/clk55 shock, also the Koni adjustables and engine mounts,if you install the V8 ones the car feels much better vs the stock 4 cyl ones.

Krum, I definitely plan to dyno soon, I will use the same dyno we tuned my turbo 202, I really want to overlay results with the 5.4

    Few small updates:

Shallow Odd-mints compartment installed with 12v outlet, matching colour coded tray above.(for touchshift MY2000 version but also available for 98/99) ... If you can let go of your matching fake carbon look ash tray this is a perfect mod for anyone wanting somewhere to throw your phone/wallet,love it.
Unfortunately MB no longer make the black surround for the touch shifter, if you order black you will receive chrome,I hope to find a black one or maybe paint this one.

Remo,Whilst playing with the ME2.0 C43 ECU I deleted the coding, this allows you to enter new coding located in the EPC, the ME will only accept 9-digit codes it recognises so I was able to find approx. 10 accepted codes including E55. the only thing I couldn't get it to accept was my original C43 code(wtf) anyway:

One interesting outcome with a few of the codes was this...I wonder which fuel/ign maps it has though..

Pagz, its no problem, happens to us all

Looking around i still see i can get a really nice low klms CL55 for around $30,000 AUD, although there is also a pretty nice looking high klms E55 for $12,000ish now too. Either way i would want to sell the donor car again with the 43 engine for a reasonable drop in price.

Unless ofcourse i could get a deal like you did on a damaged vehicle that has a good engine and trans, if it was an E55 would be good to grab the larger wheels too.

Im going to go the full suspension refit soon, will do the lot, all from K-MAC, including their bigger sway bars.

    KC,
I went through the whole swap and resell idea also but I strongly suggest you wait for a damaged E55 or CLk55, they will turn up I'm sure!

The only problem I have found with the entire clk55 swap is the rear windows not being recognised by the EIS, I think the only way around this will be to make the CLK55's ECU virgin again ,use the C43's EIS and recode the clk55 ECU with C43 VIN and let them get married... we will see

Good luck with the suspension, I find that part of tuning really hit and miss!(usually more miss's )

I thought you could use original C43 ECU which is 100% compatible with 5.4 NA swap?

    Sulaco,
Yes sure apparently it works fine and many have done it, A small part of me is sceptical as to weather its as good as maps built for the 5.4

AMG do replace the C43 ECU on the gate-shift and touch shift C55, I have both the ECU numbers for these they are not in EPC...My assumptions are that it is map related.

I'm using the CLk55 ECU because I believe the maps are identical to the C55 seeing as the cams and exhaust are identical, but also because it accepts the touch shift system as well =)

If an E55 comes up i would go that way for the wheels as well, since they apparently go straight on.

There is a couple for fair prices at the moment, 1 with 140,000 for $19,000 with a rebuilt trans, and 1 with 227,000 but very nice condition for 12,000...

yeah since you have the touch shift then your options are limited

but I KNOW there's a youtube video of a C43/55 on the dyno where the guy pulled with C43 ECU and then E55 ECU and it put down slightly more power with the C43 ECU. I'd link it but no youtube at work :\

    Sulaco,
I have seen that info somewhere too...But I've also seen somebody say they dyno'd after the conversion and the maps were lean in the top end with 43 ecu!

Same era E55 uses different exhaust so maps may well be slightly different?

    KC,
18's mono's look the part for sure a must if your going mono... Still I think damaged is the way to go but if you think you can pull off a resale by all means!

KC, Have you found your 5.4 ?..

A small update on this project..

Because the CLK55 is two door its EIS is only programmed for A208/C208, this means the rear window modules cannot talk to EIS on the interior CAN bus, thus rear window actuation does not work. I think there are two ways around this, make the CLK55 ECU virgin and mate it to the C43 EIS, or swap immo chip from C43 to CLK55 ecu, still working through the safest way to do this..

Also, OCP frequency was different on CLK55, so the CLK55 key would not work long range...this initially went undetected because my rear door modules had been failing since I purchased the C43 so the key was already not working long distance due to the common "CAN high" fault dragging down the interior CAN...this causes the common DCM1 failure so drivers side window and IR key pickup stops working...which is really DCM3 or 4 at fault. , I have since replaced both rear door modules DCM3/4 and swapped over the circuit board from the CLK55 OCP and all works 100% with CLK55 keys, OCP parts are also swappable between housings so you can get your colours right.. only catch is if freq is different and your C43 has sunroof and the donor doesn't you will need to buy a new one, but other way round is fine.

Have started to get some prop shaft vibration at 60 - 80 kmh, I suspect I should have going through the full prop alighment after install, have purchased a digital spirit level and will make some brackets to read off. also, before setup im going to replace the flexi couplings, trans and engine mounts.

And I still haven't had the AC re-gassed, I do have a new dryer element just need to get the compressor oil cleaned out.^^
