No mate, that E55 i went to look at wasnt as nice as it looked in the pictures, and wasnt really as described either. The engine didnt look good, although ran smooth, and the "rebuilt" trans was leaking from the common areas they all leak from before they are repaired.

It also failed a roadworthy inspection, the interior was poorly presented, and it wasnt worth the $18,000 he was asking. The car is still for sale too.

pagz, i red your thread from the beginning to the end.
till now are you still happy with your conversion?
did you face any other headaches besides your problem with rear windows not opening?

i'm getting a hard on for a 55 swap, ha ha!
when i have the funds i will buy an engine, I will only do the engine swap and nothing else.
    i found an E55 AMG MY09/2001 = ME2.8/EGS52

for this MY2001 engine, is it only to lift over the C43 engine wireloom, headers, alternator, starter and throttlebody from my C43 over to the 5.4L engine?
then just dump the engine into my car?
Kaype on MB-world said to try with both type C43/E55 injectors when the modification is done to see which ones are the best suitable for the 5.4L engine?
MY2001 engine has less than 160000KM on the clock, would it be time for a chain and guide rails replacement?

keep a safe and happy driving buddy

Remo, that looks like some serious bite, have you installed?, cant see any springs in there!

    Dennis,
Very happy with the swap, only thing not working is rear windows, only fault code given is "lower control panel( LCP) Does not match car", this is the module with window switches behind the shifter,This is because the clk55 EIS only wants to see w208 LCP.

I think if oil changes have been done at extended intervals then there will be some wear on oil pump guide and maybe less on timing chain guides, hard to tell if its worth changing as it is alot of work, I would say no unless there is obvious problems.

I think the part's you mention do change with me2.8 but I do not have a full list, best to get epc and compare parts!.

In epc they say not to install new cams from early 5.4, iirc cams #38/39. I suspect these cams wear poorly or are not best timing. I have these cams and would like to get updated ones but they are too expensive new.

I do wish that the tip shifter would change faster when up shifting before corners, it makes me want to install me2.8 and do what fabian did!.

I nearly purchased a 711.670 gear box but found the larger flywheels from 500nm engines have different crank bolt pattern and cps pickup is totally different, so I think I will finally throw out that dream

Not like you haven't spun custome flywheels before!

The serious bite isn't serious. It's being built currently, won't see it for a few weeks. Now time to drop out the flat 6 and transaxle. Claims are that this is the god of clutches, no rattle or noise, factory feel pedal (not a bag of sand) and you can slip it long as you want to get rolling and then release for a catapulted launch. I'm itching to try that and some K24's on a mild 800whp tune.

what year is your 5.4L engine?
did you get one of the last 2001/2002 engines or an earlier version?

some engines comes with an airpump fitted to the round bracket ontop of the engine, other engines doesn't have the airpump, bracket just sits there empty onto the engine, what does this pump do?
is it a smog pump for californian market cars?

Much more serious than the one I made ...Always wondered how much better the multipack clutches are, look forward to the results man

The air pump, does it inject air into the exhaust via the heads to counter the rich startup AFR? ..I recall those diaphragm ports link to the exhaust runners but my memory is guts...

Yes, thats what it does, i remember dealing with them on Corvettes where people thought they could turn them into superchargers...

It blows air into the headers to make the cats heat up quicker, should only run for about 3-5 minutes at the most on start up.

That's exactly what the pump does as AMG KC stated, it will run for 60 seconds on cold start up.

The engine in my garage is an 01' ML55. It is equipped with that pump but was removed prior to washing the motor. Those pumps are somewhat high demand used parts because they fail (bearings rust up) so it's good to keep an extra one put aside.

Not sure why youd worry about it failing, itll make no difference to how the car runs!!

Yup. If only you knew the crap we deal with. Smog techs will smog your car and then at the end check readiness monitors and if some aren't ready, you basically fail, have to pay and then pay again when it's ready. MB has to be the worst to get the damn monitors to run.

I remember some of it back in the old Corvette days, but i also remember it being quite easy to circumvent the system with certain models.
