Man, amazing job. I'm speechless....im itching to do something to my C36 not much performance parts I can find for it besides the ecu stuff. And suspension. Idk if I want a swap or try to work with what I have. Nitrous has been on my mind but at almost 149k I am not sure I wont break something, any suggestions pm me.
You wont break anything, but its not really a very practical power adder.
I'm working away on a swap now, but lucky for me people are forced to wait a few weeks until its done.
I just finished another 97' C36 6-speed conversion last week.
Pics remo!
How does the 6 speed fit the tunnel around where the shift rod attaches to the box?, curious as epc specs a shifter for the touchshift tunnel which I think had the 6 speed in a couple of variants?..
I would like to add a c36 manual project one day, was a nice 97 nz new low km one same as your deceased dark green/blue for sale recently i should have purchased it..

I didn't take any pictures at all. The job was a drag because it felt repetitive to me.
In order to slide the 6-speed easily, engine mounts were removed completely and the engine lay on the frame, with the front raised to provide a nice angle.
The tunnel space is tight, some modification to the trans mount brace is required as the tunnel gets wider when the gearbox is shorter. On the brace, I used 1" drop spacers to make extra room up top. I know it alters the overall cant angle, but no vibration has ever been felt from the driveline. If I had the proper mount brace I'm positive it would sit the rear of the gearbox lower, however, sourcing a manual trans brace in the US is pulling teeth.
Another thing was that the horseshoe of the shifter as well as the shift rod was all made shorter but several inches when I had initially pieced together the project.
Will the 5.5L engine bolt up properly with the 722.5 transmission or is it only compatible with 722.6+?
I highly doubt it will bolt to a type 5. If you want, I can post a pic if the bellhousing of a 5.4 if you want to confirm.
Hmm. If they were able to change a 98 C43 to a C55 then they did one of two things: use the 722.5 or change the tranny.
Hopefully it's the first option. If not, then I will need a tranny with the engine.
As I know the M113/112 W202 was only ever fitted with 722.6
The early C55 used either the gate shifted 722.636 from 98-99 E55 or 722.636 Touch shift for 00 models.
I did see something interesting the other day where someone fitted a M112 to a pre 98 chassis and looked like they had welded in the main engine support cross member from the 98+ , I could be wrong but it surely looked this way!.. there was a huge amount of rewiring involved also..

Denlasoul, if you are interested in a 5.4 swap into your C43, you will not need a new trans. When you mentioned 722.5 (I believe that's an older model to the 722.6) and was found in W124's and very early 202's. (not entirely sure there was a 722.5, I know there was a 722.4, 4-speed.)
I thought all C43s had the 722.631???
But either way, i have a question. Will the torque converter from a W211 E55 fit a 99 C43? I see a few threads about them going to 11" converters with up to 3,000rpm stall, and that is just what the C43 needs to get it moving off the line.
That's torque converter on the 211 55's is a Maybach part and should carry a W240 part number.
It should fit fine. But prior to installation I would want to double check the 6-bolts that mate it to the flexplate.
KC, all C43 have 722.631!
Flex plate has different part number with the 2002+ M113 so definitely check that
hows the 5.4 build coming along Remo?

I will see if i can get info out of the manufacturer. The stock stall speed is way too low for that engine.
In 06' the m113 crank bolt pattern changed!
The 5.4 swap I'm doing is not on high priority, I had just bought a house out in the mountain range and working on my new property is consuming a lot of time.
But it's all resealed and ready to drop in. I am doing this at home because I can work on it when I have a spare hour or so
Looks like new!
Looks good! Far enough houses should always be first
I didn't realize the crank bolts changed, only that the flexi plate and crank updates after engine 60 046180 which I assume was 2002+(W203/209 etc) with higher compression?
Edit - Sorry think I'm confusing the Kompressor variant with na 5.4,did the bolt pattern stay same as 98-02 M113 on 209 CLK55,203 C55 etc?

So far had minimal luck finding any info on a higher stall converter to fit the C43 and E55, the easiest one i found was the 03-07 converter to fir the 32 cars and the 55 cars.
I'm pretty sure the 211 E55 one will work for you!
Pretty sure? Hahaha!! Its alot of money to spend on being pretty sure though!!
Is there any way you can find out for sure?
