telescopic wheel adjustment

I've searched about how to fix this but no luck.

Anyway, sometime ago I messed up my telescopic wheel adjustment switch, it wouldn't lock so I can make my steering
wheel adjustment. I had to hold down the switch while adjusting the steering wheel column. Has anyone attempted to fix this problem before?

If yoy can't lock the switch anymore - you have adjusted the steel cable in the socket at the switch improperly...loosen the outercable again.

perhaps you could elaborate on this. When I messed it up, I didn't even know I did so. The dash board was completely in place. How do I take out the panels to get to this outer cable?
Pictures will help me a lot.
