    Dumb Question? Why is E55 hp differnt from S55?

    hi, this might be a dumb question but i cant help being curious. i notice the e55 has a slightly less hp than the cl 55 sl 55 and the s 55. why is the hp differnt? and how can u mod it to be the same ? , without the supercharger are all these engines the same as the clk 55? thanks!

    on paper, it has different hp ratings. in the back of the manual, it's the exact same hp ratings as it's older siblings (s55, sl55, cl55).

    I think they did this so that the S55 and CL55 would look better than the E55 because they wouldn't want to lose sales to the E55, not in the same class. If they had the same HP, then it may gain sales from the S55 and CL55 buyers. There have been discussions about this over at mbworld.

    If u get a chance, take a look at a E55 manual and look in the back for the specs on it.

    exhaust systems play a role too. something to do with the configuration and length.

    but they are acutally the exact same engine output figures.

    even the old w210 e55 and the pre-03 w220 s55 are the same engine output numbers too even though they're different. if you look at the back of the two manuals,they're the exact same numbers.

    I took a look at the AMG center and got the following data:

    E55= 349hp/391tq
    S55= 355/391tq
    CLK55= 342hp/376tq
    CL=355hp/391tq

    Now these are the older models pre 02.

    I agree that MB might rate them differently to rprevent people complaining about the numbers, but I still believe that the exhaust systems play a small role (namely btw the CLK and the rest).

    All these cars are the same engine, right?

    Actually, the S and Cl might be different than the 5.5L M113, but I'm not 100% sure.

    They're the same engines. I know, I looked on AMG center too and found the numbers to be different. Someone at MBWorld posted pics of the two manuals side by side and the numbers were exactly the same for the E55 and S55 (pre V8 Kompressors).

    Yes, there is some breathing differences... Nothing to make a huge difference.
