how often do you guys change oil ? do you wait for the FSS to come on or do you change oil every 3000 miles or 5000 km regularly ? i am way over 5000km from my last FSS service and still no FSS light. should i just wait for it ? or have an oil change now ?

Depends if you use dino oil or synthetic.
When you reset your FSS ( after oil & filterchange ), there should be @ 15 k kilometers on the display.
Depending on your type of driving ( yes the computer keeps track of it ), you can check the "count-down", whenever you want, to see what's remaining.
    Btw. I use Mobil 1 0W 40, and change it every 10 k kilometers.
Yes, I have a few mods, but they\'re so discrete, my wife hasn\'t noticed them.

I change oil and filter every 3500 miles. Better safe than sorry.

I change oil and filter with Mobile 1 supersyn 0W40 or 5W30 and a Mann filter every 5,000 miles and reset my FSS.

    Oil Change

I use Synthetic oil. On my E-39 BMW I change it when the FSS sais to (about every 10,000). On my 97 W202 I change it every 7,500. My feeling is that the Synthetic oil can last that long, as most of our milage is suburban/highway.

Others feel strongly that even with synthetic, you should change your oil every 3,500 to 5,000 miles. You have to decide what is right with you.

On my three diesel W123s I change the dino oil every 5,000 miles, and went over 200,000 miles on all of them without any engine related problems.

I change mine every three months, which amounts to about every 2500 kms. My indy uses Quaker State as his dino selection, but does have Mobil 1 available. I use the dino, and change the viscosity to suit the season. This is why I change the oil every three months, regardless of mileage. I don't want 15w40 in the crankcase in December any more than I want 10w30 in June. At $40 for the oil change (and yes, that's Canadian funds) it is the cheapest insurance you can buy.

My records are all over the place with regards to viscosity and brand of oil. My records indicate that I've run Penzoil, Mobile 1, and Castrol Syntec (which is what I usually run now). The dealer has me change it every 7500 miles, but I usually get it in about 500-1000 miles before that.
