well im not worried about the cost of the transmission,

i just want to know if there is a chance it can be done ?

that will make a good differance in performance, besides that manual is more fun.

That's the new one? I know the old one was crap ; I had one on my SLK320 ; broke the linkage once ... but I read the new one is worlds better.

    The 722.9's are the 7-speed 2006 trannies...

    1) benz has gotten rid of the transmission fill tube.

    2) although it shifts smooth as hell... ive replaced three valve bodies alone

    3) the software has been updated twice

    4) ive had two with mechanical issues... and benz wont replace them anymore, they want us to crack them open and replace broken speed rings and missing clips. NOT FUN

    5) there CRAP

give them two years, then they'll be worth something... of corse thats right around when benz plans to unleash there camless motors in the W204's

    ^^^^^ YUP!!!!!

when my mom bought her benz, she got manual cuz i told her too, and she got manual.

but my auntie (who was at the dealership and bought her car the same time) she decided "ohh, its mercedes so it should be nothing but comfort without having to shift anything".

so my aunt bought a 7-speed auto/shiftronic bullshit.

so far, my moms mercedes has like 4k on it, no problems.

my aunties mercedes ... about 1,800 miles, and the gearbox is doing weird shit alreddy, so she wants to make MB dealer swap for a manual. if the auto tranny is showing bad signs at less then 2k, i think that means sumthing .... what will happen to it if she hits 4k ? 10k ? 50k ? yea ... u get the idea.

but manual - pretty good. shifts smooth, but at first you have to give them about 1K to fully break in and then it works good. and the clutch is super sensitive, you bearly let go and the car is rolling.

I have never seen the 6 speed conversion done.. but I know that the W203 2002 c-coupe has an M111 motor and a 6spd tranny.. it should bolt up to the W202 M111 block without problems.. just a matter of trying to figure out how to fool the ecu to think it still has an auto trans.
My thinking was to get a new 6spd out of a 2005+ w203 sedan and fit that onto my M111 block.. but I dont know if the tranny housing have the same bolt pattern from the M271 motor to the M111 motor.
the W203 2002 6spd still feels a lil slopppy.. but the 2005+ w203 6sp is very nice and tight.

    Resurrected from the dead.

I am about to attempt this, My 98 C230 recently blew the headgasket (gofigure). I have a 2002 c230k sport coupe with a 6spd thats smashed on the side for a donor car. I plan on pulling the motor and trans, and seeing what i can do to drop them into the 98 c230. From what i've read, the w203 manual pedal assembly should still bolt up to the w202 floorpan. The big part is going to be how, to get the m111.981 which only came in the 02 C230k's to run in the chassis. I have a 99 c230k Parts car that i can pull the ecu/eis/key etc from if need be. I'm hoping i can run the motor of the 02's Ecu and get the wiring to match up. We shall see though.
