My 99 C280 don't fold and stay folding they flex both fore and aft, I think they are made this way for people who might bump into them when the car is parked?? By the way I like the day lites, they would probably pass state inspection here in Mass and we are on the CAFE standard since 98. Very nice look.

Could anyone tell me how to take the old mirror covers off and how to get to the 8 pin connector at the bottom of the a-pillar.

A previous thread indicated that you bend the mirrors back, look for a clip, remove it and voila the cover comes off. But no one has indicated (even in the folding mirror thread) whether one has to dissasemble the entire mirror, remove the door panel or other trim to get to that 8-pin connector.

Any help would be appreciated. Those blinking C/F mirrors look very cool on your car. Can't wait to put them on mine.
I just installed my mirrors. Had to take off the door trim on both doors. I never used the "8-pin connector", just ran the wires through the mirror housing, doors and into the car. (Not very hard to do)

You don’t have to disassemble the entire motor.

First adjust your mirrors so that they are level with the mirror housing and turned in on the left side, just a little. (This will help you get the cover off easier).

    To remove the mirror cover:

You need to bend the mirror cover back from the base and stick something in to hold it apart about 1".

Then, peer into the mirror guts, and you'll find a clip that retains the cover onto the mirror frame. Depending on the age of your car, there are two types. The first is a flat shiny sheet metal U-shaped piece. This piece has a lip bent out at the bottom of the U, you slide this AWAY from the tab with a large screwdriver and it will release the cover. The older style has two pieces of thick spring wire that fit into notches in the mirror cover; they have eyelets at the end of the spring wire usually. Just pry both of those out of the notch in the cover. Be careful, because when the cover is released it tends to spring backwards sharply.

You might have to also remove the mirror assembly. Just remove the three screws. Start with the bottom left one (you have to bend the mirror back to unscrew it)

The indicator wires on my ’95 are black/green (right side) and black/white (left side). I am not sure if the colors are the same on your car. You can check by looking in the
Wiring at the tail light assembly. (Use a tester to find the correct ones).

Both indicator wires run to the driver’s side, so you will need to run the left blinking wire to the driver’s side, or just connect the left side blinker to the rear taillight
wiring as I did. (I ran it under the left side of the back seat).

Lastly, both the driver’s and passenger side on my car have side panels where you can access their related wires. Look in foot well. The panels are held on by one screw hidden under a plastic plug.

    Good luck.

P.S. what wiring instructions did Steve give you?

    Benzdude:

Thanks for your help. I'll try to install them over the weekend. Maybe I will find the 8-pin connector behind the plastic cover in the passenger & driver's footwell.

Steve's instructions are for my 99 C43 and here they are copied below:

"You probably got yourself those mirror covers with blinkers and city lights (hence the third wire)...connect the ground and blinker wire to pos 5 and 6 of the oval 8pin connector which have a green and yellow wire that sit unconnected at the A-pillar bottom.

The ground needs to be connected to ground (or any full brown wire) and the power connectes to black with a white line for one side and black with a green line for the other side..."

    What u guys think?

I am thinking of buying a set of carbon fiber look rearviews with blinkers, the installation of the covers is not a problem, but how do you hook up the lights to work with the blinkers? Yours look great, My car is brilliant silver 99 C280 and I am thinking of leaving them CF color?

    Thanks,

Mine is still up for sale at this moment. You gotta connect those wires to the front turn signals since they work the same way. Email me if u are interested in buying mine. Honestly...I think mine looks way better than those sell on ebay. If u don't think so u can go ahead and grab the ones from Ebay for 180 bux.
