Lightbulb Facelift Sideskirts or sand and paint the frame underneath the doors?

I read somewhere that in order to install the regular W202 facelift sideskirts to an older W202 (pre-97) model is not as easy as it sounds... You need to modify bits and pieces and I cant stop thinking that this might damage the car because I think it also says that you need to waterproof the car or sth, maybe if you add screws into the frame in order to fit the sideskirts. I would also like to know what happens to the existing round covers for the jack holes, do the come out to be replaced with the square sideskirt ones? Forgive my ignorance and if im not being clear at some points but that is why im asking anyway! Thanks for the effort.

    Hi, I have done this.

Bascally you will need to cut open & remove the rubber lugs under the sills (6 in total, per side IIRC).

With these removed you will see bare metal around the holes in the bodywork, purchase some underbody seal & give it a good coating - otherwise you will regret it when your car rusts away.

The jacking 'domes' underneath stay put, place the skirt around them - DONT remove them as its a knightmare to fit back.

Remove the side circle discs though.

ALL sideskirts can be taken off, it's just a matter of how badly you wanna do it.

    Apart from the black strip

Better off getting skirts as they give the car a fuller look

I don't know if it will help but just for info I've just painted the door handle of my W202. Previous plastic black with crome insert (elegance set up), now metallic black painted still with crome insert.

Car is also black, obsidian black.

    It's really a minor difference!

I'd like to paint over that odious crome moulding on the bumpre ond side skirts, but now I keep as it is.
