    K&N filter

I'm runn'n a 2000 C280 and want to gain some horsepower without spending hundreds of dollars. Is it better to get an entirely new air intake system or just remove the OEM air filter and replace it with a new high-performace one? Also, what is the horsepower gain from these? I'm assuming very minimal.

some members also suggest that the filters have a reverse affect since its sucking in all the hot air in the engine...its plausible but i had all kinds of cone filters in my car, (Green, OMP, and finaly K&N) and i felt no change what so ever...

I have a K&N cone filter in my car, it has almost no performance increase, but gives a very throaty sound when you gun it, its nice.

I've had them in all kinds of cars (Corvette, Talon TSi, 325i), It made a difference in the Corvette but I had a lots o' mods. On a stock 5.7L, who knows.

On the others I didn't notice the difference.

I had a guy once tell me that platinum plugs gave him a noticeable difference in his Sunfire.

I always wondered if it was just because he changed his plugs!
