W202 shutting off problem
I own a 1999 W202 C200 Sedan, petrol engine.
There a problem where I am at standstill, for example at the traffic light and she car will either shut off or shut off when I release the brake and accelerate. What I do find strange is the car will always restart. I have had a crank angle sensor problem where the car shuts off but It wont restart no matter how much you crank the engine. The crank angle sensor was replaced I believe in either 2020 or 2021. The car has gotten a bit lazy and there is a hesitation when you accelerate, sometimes the rpm's drop as if the engine will shut off but it doesn't.
I have checked the following
removed the ECU and inspected the circuit board, no corrosion everything looks like new
inspected the wires to ECU
Coil packs were recently replaced with original parts ( either BERU or Bosch can't remember)
crank angle sensor replaced with a genuine Benz part either in 2020 or 2021
New Battery installed in March 2025 (problem has been persistent before the new battery)
I have a scan tool but I cannot communicate with the engine electronics so I am unable to pull up any trouble codes. The tool does allow me to communicate with all other systems in the car.
I don't want to start throwing parts at it bit I'd like to figure this problem out. I have stopped using the car for some time now as its unsafe.
Has anyone ever experienced such a problem with an older Mercedes ?
Cheers !
