    heating oem coilsprings (to lower)

i went to this muffler shop and they said they can lower my car by heating up the OEM coilsprings to make it lower. what is your suggestion about that idea?

    $50 cost by the way.

Heating them takes away from the strength, not a good idea if you ask me. Your better off cutting them.

never heat springs to lower a car.. as was mentioned it ruins the springs abilities. takes strength away form the spring.. becomes very weak and bouncy.
if anything cut them with a cut off tool.. or a hack saw if you have the time!

or buy a set of lowering springs. some dont cost that much.

i really wouldn't cut more than half a coil if you want any type of performance out of the springs. if it's just for looks, then it wont hurt much. cutting coils out of the springs reduces its spring rate.

NO NO NOO Noo NOOOOOOOO! That is the worst idea. Cut 1 coil off back and front. That's it.

    - 1.8 coils cut up front on #5 pads, and 1.7 coils cut in the rear on #3 pads

best looks and ride quality IMO.

Heating metal alters the "temper" of the steel, so yes it will lower the car, but the result is completely unpredictable and how anyone can do both sides equally is questionable.

As for cutting coils, find coils from a heavier car, like a V-8 model and trim those to length, for an extremely firm (check your teeth fillings) ride.
