CAI for '94 c280?
hello guys, im looking for a CAI unit for my current car, a 1994 C280, and im only 17 so I dont know much about mechanics and stuff like that yet but can anyone be so kindly to lead me to a website where i can find a decent CAI and another question, do the CAI on ebaymotors.com reliable? Thanks for your help in advance.
-
right now there are no stores that sell cai intakes for 202. Besides making your own cai intake there are only the hks short ram intake or the k&n drop in filter.
-
just keep the stock airbox imo. i'll never use K&N again on a vehicle with this vulnerable of a MAF
-
maybe, but any more suggestions? and what about exhausts then?
-
You should order a short ram on ebay and just use the filter that comes with it. Then if you decide you want cold, you can make it a cold air intake with flexible plastic tubing.
I ordered a short ram on ebay with a nice blue cone filter and I love it. I would say 10-15 hp gain but it sounds SO MUCH BETTER. I do plan to mod it to cold air soon and I will take pics when I do.
Dont waste your money on an expensive ram intake, you are paying for a piece of chrome tubing THATS IT. The only thing that makes a difference with a ram is the size of the cone, the width of the pipe, and the length of the pipe.

in place of a K & N, I am switching to the Synthetic AEM Filter which never needs to be oiled. So don't let that hold you back

To make it official, when my car was at the Dyno, I gained ~1 whp by removing the bypass valve, it is useless. I will definitely be revamping my cold air...stay tuned!

My car is a 99 c280
so that explains that.
Link? It doesnt matter, just get a cheap ram from ebay for like $30 and use the filter that comes with it until it is dirty, then put on whatever filter you like or mod it to be cold air.
It doesnt have to say its a ram for a 202, you can buy a universal coupling at pep boys etc...
And remolexi your intake is very nice but I would rather have the filter on a short ram with something covering it and a flexible tube of some sort running to where I can get the cold air from the best (more placement options than having the filter itself there)
almost like this but home made http://www.weapon-r.com/store/images/ramairkit.jpg

hey RemoLexi when you decide to sell your cai let me know i'm interested in it. =] i don't really care much about the hp gain. i would just like the car to sound meaner.
-
Ill sell it anytime your ready to paypal me. $150 Shipped within US - hey all the materials I had to buy equaled more then that plus the MAF work.
@ Ron - I understand what your saying, but really that flexible tube isnt good - all the ridges in it DECREASE the smooth air flow into the engine, basicallys slows things down in there.
-
True butit can be equalled out because you can put the front of it somewhere so that as you speed up it actually "rams" air into the funnel -> tube -> filter just because you are moving forward.
-
so, can someone lead me to some steps that i can take to getting this CAI accomplished?
edit: i just looked at ebay and came across this..http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCE...QQcmdZViewItem
would this be any good? and if anyone can tell me if the weapon r\'s were helpful and if they would fit and would they enhance my cars performance or decrease it?
-
hehehehe... me-thinks it is time to implement an ugly-ass hood scoop as part of the CAI instead of trying to route all the tubing down to the lower bumper area. Something real ugly like you see on jacked up '70s Novas or Camaros. Lots of Bondo is mandatory and you aren't allowed to paint it

i agree. you could always go one step further, and replace it with silicon tubing to eliminate even more absorbtion of ambient under-hood air

the biggest thing holding me back against doing the entire thing with the silicone tubing is wouldn't all silicone have too much play to it? It seems to be a little too "wobbly"

not reinforced silicone tubing. its very strong and holds its shape VERY well. its called 4-ply reinforced silicone tubing. All the turbo guys use it for intercooler couplings and etc. They sell them on ebay for around $20 a section. I used it on my S320 as the elbow right off the throttle body and it worked fantastic, loved it.
