Open Air filter for C230 non-kompressor

I was fixing my HID last night and I accidentally broke the intake hose connector. No big deal coz I managed to fix it. But just outa curiousity, is possible to replace the rubber intake hose with mandrel bent pipe?

will there be enough room for the pipe underneath the bonnet?
I'm thinking of getting the open air filter. What effect will this have on the engine? What about the MAF? Can the whole unit be fitted back again?

dont know if this will help b/c mines a kompressor, but i took off the bottom of my air filter box and removed it/air filter. this left the top of the box with an approx. 2" intake pipe. i used a couple adaptors and ghetto-attached an open element cone filter. it works great and ive had no problems! might be similiar for your car!
