True HID kit w/ stock OEM housing?

I have a 8000K HID kit in my car with the original headlights, and I think it looks fine, take a look in my gallery. Its bright, doesnt blind people in front of me (maybe those on the other side of street...but ah well). I've been using them for about 8 months with only one issue.


The only beef is you get the stupid 'light out' indicator.

yep same here i have 8000k too with oem housing it work grate for me but not for some people in front of me. Thay usually flash me their high beams thinking mine are on

Since the stock reflector is not made for the long HID bulb and brightness, there is no way of keeping it from reaching some angry drivers. The best you can do is to try to lower them a little more towards the floor and then you wont get as many complaints.

That's pretty much it for your question. Now outside of your question, the only way to get the best HID experience is to go with Bekkers HID kit, but you'll be looking at a price of over $1200.

Even if you get projectors you HAVE TO BE CAREFULL. One mistake people make is they buy the correct HID size bulbs to work with the aftermarket lights, but in most cases, the aftermarket lights are not made to handle HIDs. HID bulbs are about twice the size of standard halogen bulbs, in length. So when you put them into most aftermarket projector lights, the bulbs will be right next to the projector lens. Which is known to cause the burning/ melting of the lens and completely ruining the housing of the headlights. And in some cases, the HID bulb will not even fit into the projector housing because the tip of the long bulb is hitting the back of the lens.





Hope this helps in your decision. Many here have gone with Bekkers and are very happy with their investment.

i have mine aimed pretty low its never in anyones rearview at all. I've never had any complaints and only compliments. I would never let myself spend that much on HIDS...thats new tires all around!!!!

That's great. Do you have aftermarket or are you using your stock housing? Maybe I should move to Canada. Over here everyone complains about any little thing they dont like or are jealous of. Also, here in Tustin, the cops pull you over for any stupid reason. I even had to take off my magnaflow because I got 2 tickets for it, but that was a little closer to the Irvine/Tustin area.

im using the stock housing and lenses. I guess with lights its easier to get away with, especially on a Mercedes because they assume its stock. With an exhaust they can be as big as pig they want to....bastards.

That 6K kit looks good.... HID is towards the top of my to-do list - just gotta pick a temperature really. I think I want to do something 6K or lower, I prefer the pure white over more blue and purple light.

HIDs will work without projectors...if someone tells you its a bad idea, they dont know what theyre talking about...theyre a many cars that came stock with HIDs without projectors (i.e the C43 with the xenon package)

Just be aware that if your gonna buy a cheap set of HIDs that theyll probably crap out on you. I bought a cheap set off ebay for my last car and sometimes when i turned them on one headlight or the other wouldnt ignite and they killed my digital gauges everytime i turned them on. I had three ballasts burn out before i finally gave up on them.

I think that if you really want HIDs you should save up your money and go with the Bekkers.com kit. Right now its the best kit out there. There was a previous thread about what HID kits are the best...search and youll see everyones opinion.

i just installed my Bosch 6000k HID's HB2 kit. it was really easy. just gotta get some night pics to show you guys how it looks. i dont get that warning light or anything. the guy i bought it send me another kit that is more simple and for the price i think its pretty good. $295 for a Bosch kit is pretty good IMO. here's some pics of the kit.

the last kit looks the best, and gives great light output. the only reason why it's bad to use HID and Xenon with OEM glass is due to the light beam reflector pattern in the glass being designed for halogen has a lot of artifacts and light pollution that spills into the lanes of oncomming traffic.

if you were to get the crystal clear headlights that had a plain piece of safety glass without a beam pattern, it would be much better. it's too bad nobody made a set of "tuner" glass for the OEM housings that didn't have ANY reflector patterns at all. Then we wouldn't have to sacrifice the quality of the OEM housings, and could upgrade to HID kits easily and cost effectively (since the replacement glass for OEM housings is only about $75-100 each side).

the OEM headlight glass on the C43 with the xenon package has a fluted lense and so does the Bekkers HID kit and they are both glass.
