    Help With Auto tranny fluid

    so the other day i put it in reverse and it took about 2 secs for the gear to change...its been coming a long time but i have been really busy. so i pop the hood look for the atf dipstick to find there isent one...but laods of tissue paper instead...........the previous owner must of been a prick...so i start to pull this tissue out to relise its stuffed all the way down and i cant get it out...so is there anything i can do or is it a "take it to my guy at merc" job

    ps what happens if i get some tissue papper in my transmission??

    Easy fix!

    1. Buy a dipstick.
    2. Drain the transmission ATF fluid at the sump.
    3. Remove the transmission sump pan.
    4. Push the new dipstick up the dipstick tube from the sump end to remove tissue back out of the top end of the tube. Clean the tube by pouring the old ATF fluid down the tube and drain into a container.
    5. Replace the transmission filter.
    6. Re-install the sump pan with a new seal/gasket (note the very low torque values for the sump bolts).
    7. Re-fill the transmission with high quality ATF (Mercedes supplied is good) and live happily ever after.

    See the end of the dipstick at the top left of the picture of my transmission with the sump pan removed. My transmission is for the C36. Yours might be a bit different.

    your going to have to find out what transmission fuild your going to need........and OZ u forgot all about the torque converter lol...............................................
    Theres a demon in my car i tell yah....its name is KOMPRESSOR lmfao

    Yep, just trying to keep your specific fix simple.

    But, Cru328prod is absolutely correct. If you think your ATF fluid is contaminated or is due for a change, you must drain the torque converter.

    As far as ATF oils are concerned, you can just use the Mercedes supplied stuff. Alternatively, you can use a Dextron III fluid that is recommended by Mercedes. The link below is from 2001 and shows ATF recommendations on page 5. It might be a little dated. I use Castrol Transmax Z with very good results.
