Sure should change it, unless you want your
diff humming at around 150K. I change mine every
    50K. Only costs about $25.

Probably around a hundred bucks. Just go to any indy mechanic.
The diff fluid change is even simpler than an oil change (no filter).

Me and my dad will do this. When I mentioned to him that I want to get this changed he said he did it on his Jeep himself before.

    What oil is needed?

I posted this on another MB site:

I had a bit of spare time today so I drained and re-filled the diff on the C36.

Many sites strongly recommend to remove the filler plug first (before removing the drain plug) , just in case!

I can tell you that the torque required to remove the filler and the drain was much higher than I thought. I am glad I had very high quality tools to do the job, as I think the Taiwan specials might come up short!

Both the filler and drain plugs appeared to be identical and had tapered threads. Also there was no seal (gasket) in either.

The drained oil looked clean and in good condition and smelt good. I was pleasantly surprised and happy with this discovery (155,000 km).

I used full synthetic oil for the refill (Castrol SAF-XA 80W-140).

I would like to report increased power, economy and decreased noise...but there isn't any noticeable difference! LOL!
