Did you see Amway's oil on M-B's approved list of oils ?![]()
Hey what's up everyone, haven't posted in little while. So I have a friend who was one of the first people to buy a C36 in late 1994. Since he bought his car he's been using AMSOIL and recommends that I use it as well. I have a 97' C36 as you all know, but I don't know too much about AMSOIL. I do know, the guy I bought my car from told me that he's been using Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W-40 since he bought the car, so that's what I've been sticking with. AMSOIL recommends using their AMSOIL 5W-40 european motor formula and supposedly you're only supposed to change it every 10-15k miles... Any input?

Yes, I have a few mods, but they\'re so discrete, my wife hasn\'t noticed them.

AMSOIL is extreme! They are designed for DIESEL app. orginally. I got the chance to get to know some of the AMSOIL guys from all the shows we did. They rock!
DISCLAIMER - I do get them for almost nothing.![]()
I might be biased!
Some of the best oil out there now is the Castrol 0-30wt Syntec oil, the stuff Made in Germany. You need to make sure it says that on the bottle. The USA made oil is not as good.

u know wut i agree with u too on synthetic versus regular oil.
now when u have time can u look up which oil is used from factory for 95 C36
1995C280,
I can't agree with much of your post, however if you want to run petro oils go ahead.
But, I think all of the current data on oils show that synthetic oil out perform conventional oil in every catagory.
I run, as stated before either the German Castrol Syntec 0-30wt or Mobil 1R 0-30wt. The Mobil 1Racing is a new oil and can be hard to find.

1995c280,
Gosh, I dont know where to begin.
Reduction of 200degree in engine is GOOD! Of course the thermostat won't open as soon -- There is NO NEED to. As long as, the engine is in close loop anyway, it is working JUST fine!
And you could've figured that if you have PSI drop in the wet test, you do have leaky/woren out piston rings. You can use either oil, you still have bad piston rings.
The probable reason why your compression is better after using petro based oil is because unlike synthetic oil, petro oil gets thicker quickly and prevented the compression to leak down through your bad rings -- hence the more stable readings. This is why many of us use 'thicker' & 'heavier' oil on OLDER cars.
For the other zillion reasons, Synthetic is better !

Btw, how's that turbine system comin' along? So what do you recommend, Mobil 1, German Castrol, or AMSOIL?

German 0-30 Castrol Syntec here and loving it, and I was a Mobil-1 believer as well. Both are great, but my Honda seems to be liking the Castrol.

tried amsoil and mobil 1 before. amsoil on cold starts makes my engine sound louder like more ticking noise. i didnt like that. as a matter of fact my engine sounded louder even when it warmed up. so i switched to mobil
now its time for mobil racing
I've had good luck with previous cars running Royal Purple. In fact, its the only oil I've ever seen Hot Rod magazine actually endorse as adding measureable H.P. on the dyno. Doesn't matter what oil you use if you don't change it!!
Amsoil Euro synthetic 0W40 all the way!Even in the tranny and diff.ATF that is and gear oil.Amsoil!!!

i agree......amsoil european formula is the best.ive used it for years, and theyve proved its better than mobil 1 or royal purple

mobil 1 is better than royal purple, but amsoil is still #1-and you can go roughly 7,500 miles before roccomended oil change.ive had friends go 10,000 miles and it still came out good and clean.so with all those oil changes it actually saves you money by buying amsoil, cause it lasts longer
not only personal preference, but proven fact
