    C280 Steering Free Play?

    Hi guys,

I noticed this for awhile but I never really got to ask or look it up. Nor do I know if this is an actual problem or not...

    here is a short video:

The video is with the car OFF and in PARK with Parking Brake applied.

The car was recently aligned and hit nothing to damage the suspension/steering.

Some play is normal. Do you still have that same play while the vehicle is on, watch your front wheels with the vehicle on and see if they move the slightest when you move the steering wheel(they should).

I will check then when I return back home (W202 stays home for the family). However, I do recall when the wheel is near/at full lock the steering will have that "Free play" feeling to it...

Check with the vehicle on so the PSP is running and get back to me.

I've got the same play on my C230. It goes away with the engine running. I don't worry about it.

Have you checked your steering gear bolts?

The free play does go away with the car is running, however when I mentioned the free play at full lock, it was referring to the car running and doing a U-turn for example, or just plain full lock.

    I will check those bolts.

There's a screw on the steering box to adjust play.
