greetingz,
Would the climate control panel from '98 SL500 work in '98 C280?
They look the same, but the part #s are one digit away.
202 830 1185 for '98 SL500
202 830 1485 for '98 C280
Thanks!
Thanks, Steve!Originally posted by MBenzNL

greetingz,
I was a little concerned about the fact that the part
number was slightly different... but now I feel better.
It is in perfect condition. Photo above shows the original
one(ending in 1485), but the one I just got(ending in 1185)
is in even better condition.
I found it while digging through the local MB junkyard
It was inside a '98 SL500(could have been a SL600...
hard to tell since the engine and most exterior parts
were gone)
Anyway, they sold the climate control (202 830 1185)
to me for only USD$5. Not a bad find for an hour
of digging.
just 5 bucks???!!!!
Maaaan...I have been looking for one for a long time and did not get any luck...
Think you can hook me up one???

I've also looked for a long time... The dealer wants $370 for
a new one...
eBay works pretty well for this, too. I picked one up for $32.50, including shipping.
The difference is in the apearance...the newer control unit has a 0 and max printed next to the fan icon where as the older ones only had - and +.Originally posted by bobcat

greetingz,
Steve,
Do you mean you can get 370 new ones or you can get them
for $370 each?
Never know if I'll need another one in the future. Do these
things break a lot? My nearest MB dealer's parts dept told me
they "always have at least 20 in stock"..... ??? (they said
the same thing about having dozens of those harmonic balancers
in stock)
looks like alot of member here needs a new climate control. Mine is broken too. The ec light is always on. The a/c doesnt engage. The dealer wants $400.00 for a new one.
LOOK what i found lol better jump on it

greetingz,
Steve,
I hope I don't need a new one again... but if I do, I'll get one
from you.
There's seems to be some sort of conflict between my car
and the older climate control(ending in 1185). Whenever I
install it in the car, all temperature displays become Celcius
and the two cooling fans behind the grill will on forever.
(the two electrical fans in front of the radiator) However, it
will display temperature in F, when it is in "REST" mode.
I've discovered a solution, which is to disconnect the car's battery
for a few minutes. After the battery is re-connected, the display
go back to normal(dgrees in F) and the fans won't come on until
they are needed.
I put the original climate control(ending in 1485) back in and it
functions normally. Once the 1185 goes back in again, it goes
to Celcius and turns turns those two fans on. Again, it is solved
by disconnecting the battery...
Very strange... The SL500 where I got the climate control
from is a USA-spec car, not a Canada-spec.
