    OBD II Code Reader

Has anyone used a certain brand of OBD II code reader that will work for a 1994 C280?

Most 94-95 W202s are OBD II already even though the Federal Mandate was 1996. Remember, the original date line was 1994, but the domestics manufacturers were not ready.

Check the pin hook up on the lower right side of your steering wheel to be sure.

My 1994 C280 has it for sure. I've pulled codes a few times. THe OBD II readers are pretty standard. THey should all work with no problems.

I know I do have OBD II since my tech pulls codes all the time. The reason I ask is that some cheap OBD II readers on ebay specifically states does not read MB so I was wondering if there were any differences. I plan to purchase the AutoXray or Equus. Just wanted to make sure if these would work. I appreciate the feedback.

I have autoxray 3000. it works great on benzes. but if you can get 4000 or higher model, that would be even better.

Yeah I was leaning towards that brand. Any thoughts on the Autoxray 1000?

cant say for sure cuz I never used that model, but if its OBD2 than it should work. but are you looking for a coder reader of a scanner? code reader can only display codes and may or may not let you erase them, and the scanner can do that plus live data and subsystem scanning(ie engine, trans, a/c... if supported).

From what I have read in previous posts, the scanner type may not work on a 94 C280 since its not fully obd 2 compliant. I believe I can only pull codes and erase codes but thats it. Which is why I'm leaning towards the lower end. But if I get a newer car later, I'll kick myself for not getting a better one.

By the way nenad, thanks for the quick answer on the MAS issue on a previous post. It was definitely that; got one from importec.com and my car runs better than ever.

I believe it's a totally different system to reset the SRS. The kind that only businesses that are serious about fixing cars can connect with.

I used an AutoXray today at Schuck's Auto Supply. I'm not sure what model it was, but it worked great and read the code off my 1994 C280 just fine. The guy said it was only a code reader, not a scanner (he seemed to know what he was talking about since he explained the difference between readers and scanners correctly).

Anyway, it was cool because not only did it show the code on the LCD screen, he also hooked it up to a PC and printed out a report.
