    Correct. It runs the fans w/o running the a/c compressor. I most always push it in for max performance and leave the windows open, unless it's cooking outside.

    Youre all wrong it stands for Extra Cold use only on those really hot days where the compressor goes into overdrive, sorta like overclocking a CPU, the blades like those of a turbocharger change its angle forcing it to spin faster and compressing/charging the air. But unlike in a turbocharger where this compression of air heats up there is a special coating on the internal surface of the ac compressor that does the opposite. The more you compress the colder it gets, and thats how you get extra cold.

    But you should really limit the use of this as you can see from above there is a lot of work to cool down the air and your mileage and performance will suffer. Most tend to get 10mpg with this on and suffer almost a 50bhp as well.

    So use wisely.

    Let's not make this like it is over at MBworld. Although I would suggest that you use the search button to avoid getting flamed. It's simple, and it makes you look smarter. If you still cant find what youre looking for, THEN ask.
    This board has been getting quiet lately because pretty much every question there is to ask has already been answered. Just search.

    ...however one cannot search for "EC" because it is under the three letter limit.

    wrong, it is economy, as c55 said, it only turns on the blower, not the compressor.

    ec= economy
    in a very hot day, with the ec on, you will only have air blowing. when ec is off, the ac goes on and makes the air colder.
