Can't keep a "power brake" going in a '00 c280?

I was at a stoplight today and I wanted to piss off some ricer behind me in a FWD Celica who was racing their engine by doing a smokey.

I switched off the ASR via the dash switch, applied the brakes and full throttle simultaneously and the tires began to spin. But every few seconds they would stop, then start to spin again and the process would repeat, before any smoke would appear, although the rear did step out.

My question is, can this be fully defeated? Or, is this an ABS issue, which can't easily be defeated?

I assume your car is automatic. This happened because the ECU changes gear every time your revs reach high levels and the car stalls. Put "2" in the gearbox and you ll be fine. Remember to change to "D" immediately after the second gear reaches high revs!!!

yea my MB does the same thing while I do burnouts!

The car has an automatic transmission. I know how to power brake. I guess I meant ESP switch.

Haha. No. This was in AZ. A white 2001 ish Celica with baby blue vinyl tape on the hood.

my 99 280sport has an ASR switch on the dash, but no ESP.....

Careful with the brake burnouts...only one wheel breaks out...may look stupid.

Having said that, with ESP turned off I can usually do pretty good burn outs.

NOT always true w/mine!!!

Ive notices that sometimes one wheel slips out fine with nice smoke and the other side slips through but not as fast! and I have no LSD, altough wouldnt mind having it to do sick burnouts and stuff, but that kind of fun costs too much LoL

I'll have to double check that.. I'm not sure the back end would've stepped out the way it did if both wheels weren't spinning at the same time.

why would you want to do this? YOu're just going to end up braking parts....

a Kleeman LSD is designed to provide much more balanced power to the wheels and is designed to launch a 600hp beast. i can't see how that would help you make better looking burn outs

the rear end is built to handle the strenght, it has little to do with helping/hindering a burnout.

if anything, it'll be a little harder....BUT

Having an LSD in your rear end means you will spin and smoke both wheels, rather than with an open diff and the "one wheel peel" or "one tire fire", which looks gay

i was just suggesting that i doubt he's going to break the rear tires loose with an LSD that's designed to make 600hp to the wheels hook up

now a 600+hp w202.. that would be impressive!

If I hit the ESP button on my dash and hold down the breaks while flooring it I'm pretty sure I do a full burnout. No one has ever told me that only one wheel is spinning.

the whole point in burning out is just for the hell of it - if your really mad at something, you do donuts and burnouts and if your in a really Hyphy mood you also do donuts and burnouts! LoL

Hmm. Interesting.. Although, it looks like the right rear dug in deeper, as if it was spinning the most.

One of these days I'll have to do one on the asphalt, take a picture of the results and post it.

I could do that in a 1.0L 3 cylinder geo metro. Both your wheels probalby wouldn't spin on say, a real road.

My previous 99'230K would spin both no problem using the brake. Probably only did it twice though.

Please don't ever rip it up in dirt...it's just bad. Rocks kicking up everywhere, dust, etc....not good. Sand in the road sucks too. Any car will spin em' but sand goes everywhere and stuff.

On another note, my car leaves a good set of strips if I floor it just right. Flooring it around corners with the ESP off is the best. Usually can hold the car sidways for a good 20 feet or so. I'll try and get a video of it sometime.

This is when the car is in motion rolling at slow speed and flooring it breaks them loose into a burnout. True test of a cars sac. Mucho Tourque.

I hope mine will do this soon......
