Did you replace with aftermarket pads or rotors?

i just replaced mine with the r1 concepts pads and rotors, it doesnt squeak, but makes a slight buzzing noise that you could only hear with the window is rolled down. Could this be because the rotors are slotted?

did u use anti squeal paste during installation?

Breaks are Squealing here too.

Where can I get anti-squeal paste and do I apply it between the pad and the rotor?

Thanks!

i dont think so. I think its between the pad and caliper, but im not sure.

squeaky brakes can also mean you need new pads :o

Haha, definitely. I've been on my new pads and rotors for about 1,500 miles now and they just started squealing. I installed the rear pads myself and thats what I think is causing the noise since I didn't use any anti-squeal paste.

I still don't know where to get any and if it's applied between the pad and the caliper or not.

Any help is much appreciated?

your brakes squeal because you didnt use any paste on the back of the pads.
most local jobbers will sell a brake paste, and you put it on the back of the brake pad (side that sits against the caliper), do not get any on the pad surface or rotor surface.

stupid question...Why would the back of the pads squeal and not the front or rotor?

The metal backing of the pad is against the metal part of the piston on the caliper.

Near as I can tell the piston presses thru the black paint on the back of the pad and the squeal really gets fun. So it gets to be metal on metal. Add that to the dynamics of what happens to the pad during braking and presto.

This has happened to me when I forgot to put the shims and paste on. Terrible noise. Not enjoyable and definitely embarrassing.

the noise is actually caused by the pad touching the rotor, it resonates through the pad and disc and vibrates at the pad back where it contacts the caliper.. since there is nothing there to deaden the sound (brake paste) the noise is heard.. something like that anyway!

So I just went to the MB Dealership to see if they sold any anti-squeal paste, the parts guy gave me two small packets for free.

Do I put the paste between the rear pad and the shim, the shim and the caliper, or both?

I just know that if you do apply this stuff, it needs enough time to dry before you should re-install the pads otherwise it's a waste.

well thats awesome.. free is always good!!
yes, its a good idea to put the paste between the backing shim and the back of the pad, and also on the back of the shim where it contacts the caliper.

any place where the pad contacts the caliper is a good spot to put it.
