View Full Version : Im going to TURBO my W202!!
Looks really good Ross!,the engine brace matches nicely! any plan for the 36 sides?
Ahh yes one of the bi-products of having a top mount or any turbo is that extra heat,I was planning to install a vent along just infront of the firewall either out through the firewall or the bonnet!.
Any more thought about cams or standalone?...I think degreeing it all before you go with any ECU mapping, see If you can remove any overlap, then tune it and you'll run strong.
Still planning to run the manual? You'd might want to get that in too before any tuning too!.
Paul
How would the shrick cams for the M111 help with this?
You need to find out the complete specs on the shrick cams,Post here if you do. If your in luck maybe they remove some overlap by changing duration and/or cam timing.
Here are the 2 specs I have on file.. and I believe mine are the 521-00 model, the 641 i believe is a custom one for brabus or another company... rarer than the ones i currently have installed. From what I understand the 521 is "easier" to get but both are extremely rare.. ive been told under 15 sets in the world?
ref.no.: 0285 E1 521-00 (intake)
opening duration:252°
peak angle: 96-116°
lift max.:10,3mm
lift at TDC: 0,3-2,5mm
ref.no.: 0285 A1 521-00 (exhaust)
opening duration: 252°
peak angle: 108°
lift max.: 10,0mm
lift at TDC: 1,1mm
ref.no.: 0285 E1 641-00 (intake)
opening duration: 264°
peak angle: 100-120°
lift max.: 10,3mm
lift at TDC: 0,3-2,3mm
ref.no.: 0285 A1 601-01 (exhaust)
opening duration: 260°
peak angle: 110°
lift max.: 10,0mm
lift at TDC: 1,3mm
Cool,I will dig up the duration info I took when I degree'd mine,Iv got it filed somewhere at home also the stock cams are kicking around the garage somewhere so could possibly pull an approx duration off them if need be.

Isky will regrind your cams to any spec you want, so given that you have the full list I would contact them and ship the cams with the specs you want.

Thanks Paul! I must say its turned out pretty nice. I've had that Weichers brace for a looooong time!! but it does look pretty good in the engine bay. I'd still like to find a set of OEM C36 sides, and later I have plans to make a custom rear diffuser and a trunk lid lip.
I was a little bit surprised at how hot it got under the hood now.. it was always hot before, but now its wow! I need to make a template of my hood vent and cut the holes for them!
Cams I havent really though about, and stand a lone is still on the back burner. need to select a stand a lone brand though. Im still torn between Motec and Haltech. both will do what I need them to do, and I think they are close to the same price. or the Motec is a bit more expensive. dont really have the funds at the moment for it. I bought a house a a couple months ago and I just moved in last month, so I have had a few expenses over the past month.. its costly to furnish a house when you have nothing to start with!
can I degree the engine myself, or is it something that an engine builder would have to do?
hell yes I still plan on running the manual!! that will be going in hopefully over the winter or next year. I have a couple issues to figure out with the current set up so I can drive the car without any problems. so once I determine whats going on and fix it, I will be using the auto! for some reason my auto box wont manually downshift any more. I think the shifter is seized, it only goes into drive and I cannot manually drop it into 4th, 3rd, 2nd or first. I'll have to see if I can take it apart partially to lube it up.

Naushad! no way.. where you find the Brabus bumper?! I love it, looks so nice on the w202 body. its still almost on the road! need to go to the licening office on saturday morning to get my sticker renewed and then get insurance switched over to full coverage. then its all legal for the road!
tuning will nly happen when I have the stand alone. as long as it drives well enough as it is tuned, I wont be getting anything remapped.
Out of curiosity, how much did the entire project set you back?
too much! just the turbo project alone.. hmmm.. probably 7-10K

haha.. thanks bro. Oh I'm waaay ahead of you. I have the appropriate Brabus style fogs for it already! just need to fab up some brackets for them.

good to hear Ross.
man its taken longer than expected but the good times are finally here.
about the Brabus front, you're probably not gonna believe me...lol...but i managed to find an original in germany and the guy has the fogs as well which i'm not too keen on but i'll decide on them.
the bumper is confirmed though....just need to get the pre-update bumper now to finish up the front section. also managed to get the c36 sides and rear for the turbo, now all i need is a set of c36 sides and rear for the 23k

Yes it has taken longer than expected.. but at least she is somewhat done and I can drive it.
what??!! how did you manage to find a original Brabus front?! lucky guy. is the original fiberglass as well or is it like the OE plastic? do the fogs come with the brackets????? if you decide to not use them I'd be interested in buyig the brackets off of you! and maybe the fogs too if you dont want them. I already bought a set of fogs that are close to the original ones, but I have to make a bracket for them.
yes the pre updated bumper is required to fit the brabus bumper. I have the part number somewhere if you need it.
I still want to get C36 sides.. the rear I have.. I think its a cleaner bumper than the C43 one, or the stock one. looks the part more.
I just swapped out my waste gate spring yesterday for a smaller one, not sure how much boost it is for.. but the one that was in there was probably a 15lb spring! so need to go down a bit to keep the a/f good.
didnt have a chance to drive it yet with the different spring in place. need to set up my boost controller and do some test runs.

im getting it in the next week, so i will check and let you know. the seller did mention that the fogs are original hella, so i dont know currently if they are truly authentic or not...but the bumper for sure is. the c36 sides and rear definitely flow much better than oem updated items....just concerned as to how the pre-updated front will flow with the c36 sides and rear.
send me that part number please.
good luck with the setup

Hey Ross!!,
CONGRATS on the house!,thats awsome news!,so the search is finally over? haha. did you get the garage you wanted? Costs spiral out of control with a new place especially if your furnishing!!
I agree the 36 sides will be the best bet, some second hand ones will turn up they do so here now and then. we have a green 202 with brabus front and C36 rear/sides I see locally here, think its just a C200 though, looks really good!.
You can degree it yourself, you will need a few tools like a dial gauge with magnetic stand etc, best bet is to google it for method, you want to take values at certain valve lift etc.
It will be really interesting to see if the 6-speed trans fits, we have a local crew here try to fit the 6-speed to a 2.5-16v cosworth however the tunnel was not large enough...interesting as I thought the trans on the 190 was very similar in size to the 202's one? but I could be wrong.
Not sure whats going on with your trans, maybe the shifter?,Or something is not happy with the turbo setup,I was thinking about your overfueling and wondered if you did a quick reinstall of your origninal MAS housing and injectors, and if that doesnt work try the original TB. I know its a bit of work but maybe just do a rough job to see how it works, mine definitly didnt have any overfueling problems if anything there wasnt enough fuel.
The doors look really nice Naushad,I'd be tempted to go suede on a few more bits of the door after seeing that!! ;)
woa huge brakes where did you find those or are they amg ones?

Yeah Paul, I was very tempted to do the pocket, but the upholsterer moaned on the complicated process to remove it and replace the fabric....so maybe in future. The brakes are another set of SLK55 brakes that I picked up

Hello, I from Russia therefore badly speak on English, This project simply super, the GOOD FELLOW, I too now a turbo 2.3 only 208th body, whether wanted to ask the oil radiator is necessary or not, what maskchimalny pressure our motor is capable to sustain, and I didn't understand from where you took cooling on the turbine, thanks in advance,it seems to me that liquid will circulate badly
Best31

And still the question, whether if will establish the turbine instead of the compressor to work for standard insertions of ECU
The turbine has been plumbed in parallel with the engine, and also the cabin heat exchangers. You dont have alot of option as you want to avoid super heated water flowing into any plastic parts when the engine is stopped. It was hard to make convection keep circulation going on shutdown, and even harder to prove it would.

Thanks Paul! Thank you, its a great house.. very old (its from 1903). the search is over for now! until I outgrow this one! the garage is decent.. not what I wanted, but I have the space to expand. which I hope to do next year. its a detached 2 car garage, about 20x20. its hosing my turbo c at the moment and a bunch of tires! eventually it will be the shop I was searching for. they do spiral out of control, but I've been pretty good at waiting and getting what I want.. also sales are a huge help!
I should be able to search out some C36 sides.. just worried about the pre updated sides on my updated body. do they fit well? I love the Brabus front and C36 rear.. looks good so far.. just need to finish it off.
I did a quick google of degreeing the engine.. Im not going to be doing it any time soon! need to remove the valve cover by the looks of things. not too intrested in dismantling my engine right now!
I hope that 6 speed does fit! I'm worried about space, but I think it will fit. even if I need to do some minor work to make it fit I will do it.. hell Im doing anything to get it in there! I bought all the parts already! that would be an interesting car.. leaving the 2.5 16v stock with the 6 speed trans? it bolts up to that block okay?
its got to be the shifter.. I noticed that years ago it was starting to get stiff when I was trying to manually downshift. so I guess it just gave up and seized! I'll have to see if I can get it to free up at all.. I'd like to be able to manually downshift it.. makes it a bit more sporty to drive.
it wont be a quick install of the stock MAS.. I made a custom pipe with the MAS in it, so removing it and installing the stock housing will be very tight.. thats the reason I didnt fit the stock MAS housing, no room to connect the intercooler to the throttle body. and the originally throttle body will be a difficult task to fit also. too many things to change to get it to fit. id like to back track a bit to see what is wrong with my set up.. but I think its just the tune now.. I think the turbo kicks in at a different rpm and the amount of air its pushing in is larger than the charger was ever putting in there. I dont really want to do a tune.. but if I need to I'll get it done so its reliable while its running around 10psi.
I have found this thing called VEMS, its a stand alone system for VW's, the company Lugtonic makes a wiring kit and sells the VEMS ecu with it as a plug and play kit for guys running boost on VW's. I'm trying to contact them so I can see if it will be compatible with my C, as vw and mercedes use mainly bosch sensors and ecu. I hope it will work, as I'd love to be able to run all my stock sensors. it would make things easier. but we will see.
