C230 AC Problem

I've got a non-functioning AC in my '97 C230.

The compressor will not engage. I did some testing, tried to put some DC power to the clutch to see if it would click - no response. I can't turn the clutch/compressor shaft by hand, it is locked up. Does this mean the compressor is shot? Might it be the clutch only or can the compressor "vapor lock" if it gets low on gas?

Hey what's up, your AC charge might be low so your comp won't run, test the charge in it.

The charge should kick out the low pressure switch, but the compressor shaft is locked up. A recharge would clear the pressure switch problem, but would it help the compressor shaft to free up?
