Went on a car club drive today, and one of the guys behind me noticed a bit of smoke wisping out from car... didnt think much of it, thought it might be running a little rich... then as the drive went on one of the guys called me "Dude your cars smoking really bad from under your car" so we pulled over, i looked under the car, didnt really see anything. Then noticed a couple of drops on ground... moved car forward, sure enough, red trans fluid, it had been leaking out and burning off on exhaust. Seems to be coming from drain plug, fingers crossed, becuase then it is a simple fix.

if it was burning off of an exhaust, then its coming from something higher, like the pan gasket, dipstick tube o-ring, or the clutch cable unit.

the first two are an easy fix, but the last one isnt so easy. it requires a steep angle to remove it, which in most cases requires the trans to be removed.

ive had that on my older 202,

it was called "window oil seal" (I think) but theres 2 of them.

make sure when you change your trans. oil, check the oil leval whan you car is fully warmed up because Tranny oil expands when it gets hot, so when you just poor oil into it, and see the leval being fine - its too much!

whan that oil expands it can start to put pressure on your seals and they start to leak.

- my dad is an MB specialist for more then a decade so he tells me alot about Technical stuff!

Went out to manakau heads to one of the little beaches there, we stopped off at the lotus dealership in Waiuku, but it is closed on sundays. Cheers nenad and rollinrealbig, will get under it today and see if i can find the culprit

Turns out its not a trans leak, its engine oil but damned if I can see where it is, topped up a ltire today, and to top it off the erratic idle has returned, in a very bad mood and seriously not liking the car at the moment

this may seem true because people usually only talk about the problems and how much they hate the car then when the car is running good. ;)

I am so perplexed.... just talked to mechanic... there are no oil leaks, except a tiny trans leak which is a seal that couldnt have shot out that much oil, getting it fixed of course but damn thats weird. Also vacuum leaks are fixed, a couple of hoses had popped off.
