sure hope that link works, but let it connect for a few minutes,

I was bored one day, came up with a small project where I needed to pull off my Exhaust.

its disconnected right after the cats., about a 2" gap in between.

sounds cool, but im not going to leave it like that - otherwise you hear me from a good distance.

i had my exhuast chopped off my c43 for a day. in parking garages i could set of alarms on the other side of the garage. I got pulled over 2 times. When driving by people on the side walk, i would rev it and they would acually jump!

I was at the RPM Racing get together this past weekend, and they were showcasing two SL 55s with the "new hotness" ... butterfly controlled bypass valves in the exhaust just before the muffler. You can open it partially or completely. Sounds like a 60s hotrod!!!

They said one guy in a newer forced induction E55 dynoed with them open and closed measured about 20 hp gains when opened.

I remember when I was in my friend's shop back when I had the turbo'd C220 and his shop was making custom turbo back exhaust piping to weld onto my Eisenmann exhaust, we reved the engine with no exhaust bolted up and it sounded great with a bit of turbo sound. All followed by the pssshhh of the BOV at the end. Good times for car people, I'll tell ya' what.

Where does all the heat get directed to?

link works.

Hmmm .... sorry if the link doesnt work, its been like that for some ppl,

wow I see im not the only one thinking of a bypass butterfly valve thing ...

i am thinkin if I can have a dual exhaust, then right after the cats. id put a splitter, in the middle of the splitter have a valve that you can pull up through the inside of the car (armrest area) then when you pull up the valve, you open the side where the race exhaust is (which could just be a 5in" full on pipe) and when you close the valve have it go through the stock exhaust.

the only thing I have to look into is if it will all fit like I want it to.

Yea it hella loud!!!

My friends heard me coming down the road from like 6 blocks!!!

and all it is is a 2" gap between the Muffs. and the cats.

so basically my entire back part of the exhaust is just hanging there by those rubber pieces, sure hope i dont lose it LoL

also ... my fren saw this, and he wanted me to try that on his RX-8,

sounded very nice, like an HKS full-on, and he had a 1/2 gap which is barly anything. damn Rotary engines are loud!!!

he just drove off like that didnt even bother keeping the bolts ... but ill keep them for him because he will come back when he gets a ticket LoL :D

Hey apexi make a valve, not sure if it closes fully though...

JIC make an electric item but its made to go inline to reduce noise.

It's not like they bill every minute of a day like a lawyer, and @ $350/hr no less. ...and I find their skills much more useful to me, then a lawyer. If I have to pay a premium for their service so it pays for the low volume speed shop to stay in business and be around when I need their service, I'm willing to do it.

nice, thats exactly how i wanna do mine...with electric actuators!
not sure if i will do it yet...as my external wastegate should make a fair amount of noise on its own

Believe it or not, this setup I linked to is not insanely loud, because you've got all that pipe, two cats and resonator in the path.

yea its only a 2" gap, in between, so the gas still partially exits through the way back.

But i know if I completly pull it off it will be much louder.

im not sure ay,might call the LTSA and find out...
I was told once that external wastegates must be plumbed back into the exhaust....not sure if its true but will find out next week as my header gets under way...

Hmmmm benz with external to atmosphere:cool:

Just read the LTSA vehicle inspection form for exhausts...this was there......"An exhaust system must not be constructed or
modified in a way that allows a person to
interfere readily with its operation or reduce its
effectiveness"

guess that does away will any type of exhaust bypass...guess ill plumb the wastegate back into the system with a removable clamp setup just for the WOF guys;)
