Hi All
I had a problem with my Merc. The Check Light was on the dash, so I had a look around the web for on how to read the codes.
Came across this site www.auto-diagnostic-codes.com
Has FREE code info on Engines, ABS, Auto Trans, Airbags.... for cars from US, European, Australian and Japanese and Korean
vehicles.
I was able to follow the instructions to read my engine codes, and then type the code in the system.
Code came up as Code 13: Airflow sensor (AFS) or circuit.
I tested and replaced the sensor, and that fixed problem. Just thought this website might also help others. :)

Diagnostic codes can be found here, you will need a scan though. (http://202tech.mkosonen.com/)
I'll bet we'll never see this user again, now that he has told us about this wonderful website.

The website that he gave has a way to check codes using an LED or a voltmeter. I've seen it in the MB WIS and AllData. It uses LED flashes to show the code. Seems pretty slick. I'm going to try it out this week and report back.

thats how you retrieve codes from pre OBD2 vehicles(the 201, 124, 126 with 8 or 16 pin sockets have an LED and a button, you hold the button for a few seconds, and LED blinks out the codes)

Yeah, I also used to do the same thing with my older Volvo.
After looking at some wiring diagrams, it looks like I will be able to pull engine codes and CC/ISC/EA codes as well. Going to try it out tomorrow.

So I tried out the code pulling technique using an LED and a pushbutton. I counted the LED flashes on the HFM-SFI pin, and I got a code 8.
I used AllData to lookup the DTC code,and it turned out to be:
ISC system at lower control stop or;
ISC system at upper control stop or;
CC or EA indicates limp-home mode.
I then put the LED in the ISC/CC/EA pin to pull the codes for that system. I got Code 2
This indicates a general fault in the ISC/CC/EA system
It is also possible to clear the codes by holding the button down for around 8 seconds. Pretty cool that this works and is a way to check engine codes for only a couple $$ worth of parts, or in my case, an old alarm LED/push button.
