Recently, literally one day overnight, my 230k developed a 2 second rough "sputter" like it wants to stall but doesnt, when you turn it on after it sits for a minium of 8 hours. No check engine light and the spark plugs were previously done with the previous owner around 40k miles. Car has 54k miles right now. Aswell noticed when this started, a very slight shake that comes and goes when in gear P.

Where can I look?

replace fuel filter

i would also check the plugs just to make sure......

and also true fuel injection cleaner (redline makes a gud one)

and if that still didnt fix the problem...roll it off the cliff lolssss nah jk jk....

the next thing to check is the MAF..... :-)

It seems that every time something goes strange with my car I read about it the next day on some forum......strange.....

My car has been doing this for the past week. Only on cold starts. It almost stalls out for a few seconds then revs up, settles, and idles ok.

I finally have a day off this sunday so I can finally replace my plugs that I've been meaning to for the past 3 weeks. I'll post if this fixes things. My car pulled a code for MAF a couple weeks ago so that may be the next thing in line.

No check engine light I have. Aswell MAS was done about 4 months ago and I have full power. Was thinking fuel filter....easy fix I heard? Is it DIY?

Have to check plugs too.

lol so we meet again. I did the fuel filter and nothing changed. Its really easy to change. Everyone keeps telling me that its the injectors...hmm I'm going to check for codes tomorrow.

An update: Went downtown to a club last night and as on the highway was thinking "perhaps the engine is being clogged from carbon or something" cause I dont drive it fast really. So I nailed her down a few times and kept it a decent speed for a bit. Did the same thing the way back. This morning it did NOT shake! :)

haha thats awesome. I scanned my car today and got nothing. Perhaps tonight I'll have to take it up to about 120.

Its come back. Not really bugging me but it seems intermittent.

Any more ideas? I will soon change the fuel filter but I read its not the cause. Spark plugs were done at 50,000kms and now its at 90,000.

if you think it's carbon build-up, do a forum search for "sea foam". i'm going try it out this summer when i have time away from this work on the road.

What would the car do or how would it react if wires to the spark plugs or someother wiring is dried up or going dead? I doubt its this though. Also read and heard before that these have cold start valve issues?

ignition wires could definately be the culprit here...upon misifiring of cylinder 6 I didn't recieve any CEl, but after the check engine light came on it started to do the symptoms you guys have described above...that being said the wires on mine were definately at fault, so this could be the problem of faulty wires..try to check the plugs to see if they are tight and snug...AFter I finished the misfiring issue of cylinder 6 from the faulty plugs the idleing you guys have described is less intense...it idlesup and down a little, but not as much as it did before.....A set of 12 wires for the c280 runs about 120 bucks...

I was talking to my parents about this issue and they mentioned putting your foot on the gas while starting to "give it some gas". The technique from back in the old days.....

Anyway,
When I attempt the cold start, the car IMMEDIATELY stalled, that seems very odd to me and should help to pinpoint whatever this problem is.
