if previous owner disconnected the battery doing some work, then put the cable back the abs/esp will malfunction.
did you try to turn the steering wheel from left to right in fast pace a few times?
this is the procedure to kill the dash lights

or you might have a fawlty brake light switch?
did you check the brakelights if they illuminate?

or your brake system might have some problems which needs to be checked out with a code reader?
